Smells so good! It looks delicious! Shen Luoluo could already imagine the taste.

Grilled sausage!

Oh, sugar-roasted chestnuts! My favorite! I haven't had them in forever.

Roasted sweet potatoes look good too!

And a stuffed flatbread! It'd be even better with two eggs!

Shen Luoluo was lost in thoughts of

food

when she suddenly realized the car had pulled over. She looked up, confused. What was going on?

Shen Jingyao unbuckled his seat belt. "Wait here a moment."

Shen Luoluo watched him get out and walk toward the food stalls nearby. His expensive, immaculate suit looked utterly out of place among them.

A dozen or so minutes later, Shen Jingyao returned with an armful of snacks and handed them to her.

Shen Luoluo: ?

How did he know I wanted these?

"Ahem." Shen Jingyao cleared his throat. "I figured kids your age probably liked this sort of thing. I didn't know which ones you liked, so I bought them all."

I do! Of course I do!

Shen Luoluo was completely won over by the food. She looked through the bags. Sugar-roasted chestnuts, grilled sausage, roasted sweet potatoes, stuffed flatbread—even grilled squid! Oh, I love all of these!

She looked up with a smile. "Thanks, big brother."

Shen Jingyao smiled too and rubbed her head. "If there's ever anything you want to eat or anything you need, just tell me. I'll buy it for you."

He was rarely home, and his younger sister had only recently joined the family. Unlike Anya, who had grown up at home and knew how to wheedle and make a fuss, Luoluo seemed quiet, withdrawn, and a little distant. He had thought that was simply her personality. Only after he could hear her thoughts did he realize how much he had overlooked. Whatever else was true, Luoluo was still just sixteen or seventeen. She needed family, friends, and affection.

"You can tell Mom and Dad, Xi Che, or Jia Yan, too. We're all your family."

It was completely dark by the time they returned to the villa.

"Luoluo, you're back!" Zhao Huizhen was carrying the last dish out of the kitchen. When she saw them, she called out, "Come on, your timing's perfect. Dinner's ready!"

When she saw the pile of snacks in Shen Luoluo's hands, she frowned instinctively. "Why did you buy so many?"

"It's fine once in a while," Shen Jingyao answered for her before she could speak.

"Sugar-roasted chestnuts! I smell roasted sweet potatoes!" Shen Jiayan caught the scent and came rushing down from the second floor.

Shen Luoluo generously held out the snacks. "Chestnuts or sweet potato. Pick one."

Shen Jiayan chose the sweet potato. "Th-thanks."

"Want some?" Shen Luoluo asked casually. She could at least make a show of offering in front of everyone.

Shen Anya shook her head and smiled. "Thanks, but I don't eat those." Beneath the table, her hands were clenched into fists.

Big brother had never bought her snacks like that, yet now he had bought them for Shen Luoluo and even spoken up for her! And Shen Jiayan used to listen to her more than anyone. Now he was getting along with Shen Luoluo and even playing games with her!

Only second brother still doted on her. He bought her everything.

But it was fine. It wouldn't be long now.

At the thought, Shen Anya smiled. "Mom, Dad, second brother said he'll be back next week."

Second brother?

Shen Luoluo froze. It took her several seconds to realize whom Shen Anya meant.

The second son of the Shen Family, Shen Xiche, was apparently an idol singer with millions of fans.

No one could blame her for forgetting about him. She had never been interested in celebrities

or following stars

to begin with. Besides, she had been back with the family for ages without ever meeting him. She didn't even know what he looked like. It was only natural she had forgotten him.

Seeing Shen Luoluo's blank expression, Shen Anya smiled even wider. She knew second brother must have ignored her. "Mom, Dad, he said he's prepared a huge surprise for you."

A surprise? Let's hope it isn't a nasty one.

Shen Ting'an's chopsticks jerked. He looked at Zhao Huizhen, who set down her spoon. The couple hardly dared breathe as they waited for Luoluo's next thought.

Shen Jiayan grinned around a mouthful of roasted sweet potato. He was enjoying the drama while eating one.

But after waiting a while, they found Shen Luoluo still focused on her chestnuts. No further thought came.

"Mom? Dad? What's wrong?" Shen Anya's voice brought them back to their senses.

Shen Ting'an snorted, unimpressed. "So he still knows the way home. Surprise or no surprise, I'll thank my lucky stars if he doesn't cause trouble!"

"Now you've brought it up, I'm angry all over again! What kind of attitude is that from Shen Xiche? It was bad enough that he missed Luoluo's homecoming banquet. He hasn't even come back to see his sister all this time!"

He turned to Shen Luoluo. "Don't worry, Luoluo. When your second brother gets back, I'll give him a good talking-to!"

Luoluo, Luoluo! It was Shen Luoluo again!

Ever since Shen Luoluo came back, she was all anyone in the family talked about. No one cared about Anya at all, and now even second brother was being scolded! That wasn't how it had gone in her dream!

Where was her Koi Luck? Why wasn't it working? Shen Anya's eyes reddened with anger.

Ever since they switched rooms, everything that followed had gone off track!

That was it—the rooms! Shen Anya's eyes lit up. If they switched back and she lived in that room again, everything would return to its proper course, just like in her dream!

She needed to find an excuse to move back! If only second brother were here. She wouldn't have to come up with all these ridiculous schemes. He would never have let her suffer the indignity of staying in a guest room!

The next day, at school.

As Shen Luoluo walked through the school gates, she happened to run into their class monitor, Song Qinghe.

Song Qinghe wore his school uniform that day, with his shirt buttoned to the top beneath his tie and gold-rimmed glasses perched on his nose. When he wasn't speaking, his expression was cool and aloof. He looked exactly like the brilliant, untouchable male lead of a novel!

They exchanged a knowing nod in greeting.

But something was off. Shen Luoluo noticed that from the moment she and the class monitor stepped through the gates, people around them kept looking their way.
