Power Progression

Background and History

Song Que was born to an ordinary family in a Heaven Dou Empire town. His mother was Huo Yun’er’s elder sister, making him Huo Yuhao’s cousin. Evil Soul Masters killed both of his parents during his first year of school; a letter from his mother later revealed his connection to Huo Yun’er and Yuhao. Despite possessing Innate Full Soul Power, he inherited what appeared to be an ordinary blade martial soul. Relentless training in blade work and physical combat allowed him to grasp Blade Intent 1 3.

At Shrek Academy, Song Que was passed over for the Shrek Seven Devils reserve selection because his martial soul was judged to have limited potential. Dean Yan Shaozhe also declined to act on Song Que’s concerns about an attack on Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong without conclusive evidence. Disillusioned with the academy, Song Que left with Yuhao and other companions. He intended to find another path to strength and help Tang Ya reclaim the Tang Sect’s former headquarters from the Ironblood Sect 1 2 3 5.

A bead kept since childhood proved to be the Hōgyoku. When Song Que fitted it into the opening above his blade’s hilt, the incomplete martial soul evolved into a Zanpakutō. Sōsuke Aizen, whose consciousness resided within the Hōgyoku, had brought Song Que to Douluo Continent and left him Shinigami techniques and protective spiritual clones. Song Que remained wary of Aizen even as he began using the power 6 8.

Abilities and Skills

Zanpakutō and Blade Intent

Song Que can shape his evolved martial soul into different Zanpakutō abilities associated with his soul rings. His earlier blade training gave him Blade Intent before the evolution. The Hōgyoku does not respond reliably at all times: it initially stopped him from completing Senbonzakura, and Aizen said it needed energy and time to adapt to this world 3 7 8 15.

• Tsuchinamazuki — A green dagger that produces wind blades and powerful gusts. Song Que accidentally locked it in as his first soul skill 7 12.
• Shinsō — Extends at great speed; a demonstration pierced a boulder roughly a thousand meters away. Song Que later used its sudden reach to kill Tie Li and defeat Meng Hongchen without a fatal strike 8 13 40.
• Senbonzakura — Scatters into cutting, blossom-like blades. It became available after his Zanpakutō absorbed an Ice Extreme Divine Crystal; Song Que uses its petals for defense, restraint and wide-area attacks, with greater soul-power expenditure increasing their strength 17 37 40 41.
• Hyōrinmaru — Controls cold and weather. Its Bankai, Great Crimson Lotus Hyōrinmaru, creates a vast freezing domain and ice-dragon power, but its first activation severely strained his body 44 45 52.
• Ryūjin Jakka — A fire-type sixth soul skill Song Que manifested at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. Its flames absorbed a fire-dragon phantom; afterward, his fourth and sixth rings turned platinum white, though their precise status remained uncertain 71.

His Zanpakutō can also cut and purify Vengeful Spirits. This counters an Evil Soul Master’s spirit-based attacks, but did not erase the raw power gap between Song Que and Myriad Souls Douluo 66.

Shinigami Combat Arts

Song Que gained a combat system encompassing swordsmanship, hand-to-hand combat, movement and Kidō, and offered to teach it to his companions. He can form footholds from airborne Reishi to stand or move in midair. His Flash Step is fast enough to appear like teleportation, though he distinguishes the two 11 19.

• Hadō #31: Red Flame Cannon — A fire blast that destroyed a tree during a demonstration 10.
• Bakudō #61: Six Rods Prison of Light — Restrains a target; an incantation-free casting caught Ma Rulong off guard, though Song Que noted the weakened effect 12 41.
• Bakudō #21: Red Smoke Escape — Creates concealing smoke 38.
• Kaido — Healing art used to revive Jinpeng after his injuries 15.

Hōgyoku and Soul Spirit

The Hōgyoku reshaped Song Que’s soul power to have the properties of spiritual pressure. It has absorbed rare materials and natural treasures, though Song Que found it would not consume poor-quality objects or objects with soul power flowing through them. During his dangerous Soul Spirit ritual, it repeatedly healed wounds opening across his body 6 35 47.

The Snow Empress voluntarily became Song Que’s Soul Spirit after he helped stabilize her. Her essence resides in his fourth soul ring; she retains her consciousness, can manifest beside him, and teaches him her abilities. Electrolux sealed the excess energy from their near-fatal fusion in layers intended to release as Song Que advances 45 46 47 48 53.

Following Dai Yueheng’s near-fatal attack, the Hōgyoku also triggered a violent, Hollow-like transformation. Song Que briefly lost control and wounded Yan Shaozhe before his mask broke and the state ended. He did not understand why it had occurred 54 55.

• Hōgyoku — Fused into the opening in his blade martial soul; Aizen’s consciousness resides within it 6 84.
• Complete Kidō Records and Shunpo Secrets — Techniques left to him by Aizen 6.
• Aizen’s spiritual-power clones — Three protective imprints left for emergencies; Song Que activated one when Jinpeng attacked him and Yuhao 6 13.
• Snow Empress’s spinal soul bone — A 700,000-year soul bone that raised his level and strengthened his body 73.
• Di Tian’s dragon scale — Given to Song Que as a way to contact Di Tian 48.

Relationships

• Huo Yuhao — His younger cousin, whom he treats as a brother and protects. Song Que advocated for Yuhao’s independence when the Body Sect and Tang San sought to direct his future 1 3 15 81.
• Snow Empress — His willing Soul Spirit, combat partner and teacher. She protected him against Myriad Souls Douluo and urged caution at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well 46 48 53 66 72.
• Sōsuke Aizen — The consciousness within the Hōgyoku, initially an unsettling benefactor. They later discussed their linked survival and shared opposition to the Divine Realm 6 84.
• Tang Ya — A Tang Sect companion whose campaign against the Ironblood Sect Song Que helped plan and carry out 3 11 13.
• Bei Bei and Xu Sanshi — Friends and Just Sky teammates who respected his strength, sparred and bantered with him, and followed his tournament plans 2 19 20.
• Princess Vena — Arranged his group’s tournament entry and supported them; later sought to bring Song Que into the Heaven Dou Empire’s camp 15 19 61.
• Yan Shaozhe — Shrek’s dean, whose decisions helped drive Song Que from the academy. Their conflict intensified during the tournament final 1 2 55.
• Tang San — Offered Song Que cultivation opportunities, then threatened him when Song Que refused to leave Yuhao to his intended path 81.

Story Role and Major Arcs

• Tang Sect reclamation — Song Que led the raid on the Ironblood Sect, killed its leader Tie Li, and intervened when Jinpeng tried to take Huo Yuhao by force 11 12 13.
• Just Sky Academy tournament — He proved himself against Zheng Tian Academy’s starting lineup, helped direct the combined team, and defeated Meng Hongchen, Xiao Hongchen and Ma Rulong in succession during the Sun Moon matches 19 20 40 41.
• Soul Spirit experiment — He risked injury to stabilize the Snow Empress, survived their first contract with help from the Hōgyoku and Electrolux, and proposed Soul Spirits as an alternative to killing Soul Beasts for rings 44 47 48.
• Final against Shrek — He defeated Ma Xiaotao with Ultimate Ice. After Dai Yueheng’s illicit sneak attack, Song Que survived an uncontrolled transformation; Shrek was ultimately declared defeated, and Just Sky won the championship two matches to one 52 55 56 61.
• Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well — Seeking further growth, Song Que absorbed energy from the spring through his Zanpakutō. His ice and fire abilities drew in dragon phantoms, altering two of his rings; he later chose not to explore the spring’s dangerous depths 70 71 72.
