After two fights in a row, it was time for lunch.
As the new boss of Dorm Seven, Lin Hao naturally planned to treat everyone.
Lin Hao had hardly been idle during the three months between his martial soul awakening and the start of school.
With a top-tier assault-type martial soul as powerful as the Heavenly Blade, Lin Hao had gone into the hills behind Holy Soul Village, ventured a little deeper, and hunted ten-year Soul Beasts to sell.
He had earned a little money. Just over a hundred Gold Soul Coins.
A single Gold Soul Coin was enough to buy lunch for everyone in Dorm Seven, with a chicken leg for each of them besides.
He went to the cafeteria with Wang Sheng and the rest of Dorm Seven.
Notting Junior Academy's cafeteria was enormous, large enough to seat more than three hundred people from six classes and the faculty. And that was just the first floor; the cafeteria had two.
The second floor served food ordered à la carte, though. It was too expensive for work-study students.
After eating together on the first floor, they headed back. As they passed the teaching building, a middle-aged man with a buzz cut stopped Lin Hao and Tang San.
"You two—you're Lin Hao, right? And you're Tang San?"
The moment Lin Hao saw the man, he knew who stood before him.
Yu Xiaogang.
Lin Hao had been about to walk straight past, but then he remembered that Yu Xiaogang had information on rare Soul Beasts that he wanted.
So Lin Hao gave Yu Xiaogang a polite smile.
"Sir, did you need something from us?"
Yu Xiaogang did not answer. Instead, he looked at the others.
"Students, I have something to discuss with Lin Hao and Tang San. You may head back first."
The others from Dorm Seven had no idea what was going on, but they left all the same.
Once everyone else was gone, Yu Xiaogang raised a hand and tilted his head back, putting on an air of profound wisdom.
"Lin Hao and Tang San, correct?"
"My name is Yu Xiaogang. You may call me Grandmaster."
"Oh! Well, Grandmaster, what did you need from us?"
Tang San said nothing. He merely watched the teacher before him and waited for an answer.
A long moment passed. Yu Xiaogang still held his head high, maintaining his lofty pose without saying a word.
Lin Hao spoke again.
"Grandmaster, if there's nothing else, we'll be going."
Tang San and Lin Hao started to leave.
Seeing them go, Yu Xiaogang grew anxious. He had been in Notting City for fifteen or sixteen years, gathering information on children whose martial souls Spirit Hall had awakened in rural villages.
These two were the only people with Innate Full Soul Power he had encountered. He had met plenty with less over the years, but only Innate Full Soul Power was worthy of his theories.
If he let them slip away, who knew when he would next meet a Soul Master with Innate Full Soul Power whom he could take as a disciple to test his theories? He could not let them leave.
Yu Xiaogang cleared his throat.
"I am a renowned master of theory across the Douluo Continent, and you both possess Innate Full Soul Power."
"You have exceptional talent as Soul Masters. With a good teacher to guide you, your futures would be limitless."
When Yu Xiaogang fell silent again, Lin Hao understood what he meant.
He had hinted that he wanted to take them as disciples without even saying, "I want to take you two as my disciples." He just stood there putting on airs, expecting them to guess.
Lin Hao was speechless.
"Come on, Grandmaster."
"If you want to take Tang San and me as disciples, tell us about yourself. Just say what you mean."
"Why make us guess? Who takes disciples like that?"
Lin Hao's words left Yu Xiaogang looking embarrassed, but he had thick skin. He coughed lightly.
"Ahem!"
"As a renowned master of theory across the Douluo Continent, I believe you both have fine talent as Soul Masters. I would like to take you as my disciples. What do you say?"
Looking at Yu Xiaogang's expectant face, Lin Hao slowly shook his head.
"No."
Tang San saw Lin Hao shake his head and immediately did the same.
"Neither will I."
Seeing them both shake their heads and hearing two refusals, Yu Xiaogang realized he had been played. His eyes went red, and he breathed like an angry bull. He looked ready to summon his Luo Sanpao martial soul and blast both their faces with shit.
"You two!"
Seeing Yu Xiaogang's red eyes and heavy breathing, Lin Hao genuinely feared he might summon Luo Sanpao and blast him in the face with shit.
It was not that Lin Hao was afraid of him. But if Yu Xiaogang stopped caring about the crowd around them and had Luo Sanpao fart shit at the two of them, that would be a problem.
Even a little getting on him would be more than Lin Hao could stand, so he hurried to interrupt Yu Xiaogang before he could make a move.
"What's this, Grandmaster? We won't become your disciples, so you're getting angry and planning to take revenge?"
"Since you're a master of theory, all you have to do is answer one question I have about martial souls. If you get it right, I'll become your disciple."
"Of course, if you get it wrong, you'll have to agree to one condition."
"How about it?"
Hearing that he still had a chance—and that he only had to answer a question about the theories he prided himself on most—Yu Xiaogang was secretly delighted. His haughty expression returned.
"Fine. It's only one condition. Ask away! My answer will leave you utterly convinced."
Lin Hao nodded in satisfaction. The information on rare Soul Beasts and martial souls was as good as his.
"Good!"
"My good friend Tang San has Innate Full Soul Power, but his martial soul is Blue Silver Grass."
"How do you explain that?"
Yu Xiaogang was delighted to hear the question. The instant he had received the records from Tang San's martial soul awakening, he had worked it out: Tang San possessed a second martial soul, and it had to be extraordinarily powerful. Otherwise, it could never account for his Innate Full Soul Power.
"That won't stump me. You two had better prepare to become my disciples."
"Tang San has Twin Martial Souls, and his second martial soul must be extraordinarily powerful."
Lin Hao chuckled. Tang San grew a little nervous, but when he remembered what his father, Tang Hao, had told him, his nerves vanished.
"Impossible. Twin Martial Souls? It's not as though I don't know what it takes for them to occur."
"For Twin Martial Souls to arise, the two martial souls must be almost identical in quality. If their quality differs by even the slightest bit, Twin Martial Souls cannot form."
"Exactly. I don't have Twin Martial Souls. Wouldn't I be able to feel it if I did? Looks like you're no master of theory after all."
Faced with objections from both Lin Hao and Tang San, Yu Xiaogang, utterly confident in his theory, looked at Lin Hao and asked,
"Then tell me, Lin Hao. Why does Tang San have Innate Full Soul Power when his martial soul is the useless Blue Silver Grass?"
"That's easy. One hint and you'll understand."
"Think of my good friend's Blue Silver Grass martial soul in terms of the Heaven Dou Empire's royal family."
"Then you'll understand what's going on with his martial soul."
