Background and History

Qian Xunji is Qian Daoliu’s son, Bibi Dong’s former teacher and the father of Qian Renxue. As Pope, he initially intends to capture the hundred-thousand-year soul beast Ah Yin for Bibi Dong’s ninth Spirit Ring. Memories of another world instead show him a possible future in which Tang Hao wounds him, Bibi Dong kills him and Spirit Hall ultimately falls. He resolves to change that outcome 1 2 3.

Bibi Dong also awakens memories of repeated lives. Qian Xunji restrains her during the ensuing breakdown, then cautiously helps reunite her with Qian Renxue. Their cooperation does not erase his past abuse of Bibi Dong or her distrust of him 2 3 4.

After fighting Tang Hao, Qian Xunji and Bibi Dong stage his death. She succeeds him as Pope while he operates as Spirit Hall’s Eighth Worshipper, concealing his identity as Yang Tian. The supposed murder becomes Spirit Hall’s public justification for its campaign against the Clear Sky Sect 6 7 8 30.

Appearance

In his original appearance, Qian Xunji is a handsome man with long golden hair and deep, world-weary eyes that make his age difficult to judge 1.

• Papal dress: A black robe embroidered with gold, a nine-curved purple-gold crown and a jewel-encrusted scepter nearly two meters long 1.
• Disguise: Changes his appearance after his staged death and presents himself as the Eighth Worshipper 7 8.

Personality

Qian Xunji’s awakened memories make him more attentive to his daughter and to retainers whose deaths or injuries he foresees. He acknowledges that maintaining his authority as Pope and teacher damaged his relationship with Bibi Dong, and he tries to cooperate with her against their anticipated enemies 4 5.

He remains manipulative and willing to use intimidation, deception and mental influence for Spirit Hall’s advantage. His threatened sexual assault of the captive Tang Yuehua, and his later forced kiss of Bibi Dong, show that his professed change does not mean he respects others’ boundaries 28 32 34. He also favors practical rewards for loyal subordinates and pursues diplomacy, trade and religious influence alongside military strength 15 26 30.

Martial Souls and Combat

• Six-Winged Angel: His original martial soul, associated with ultimate light, holiness and flame. He uses Angel attacks and can exert overwhelming Soul Power pressure 6 14 19.
• Sun Martial Soul: Gained through the Solar Divine Trials. He summons it while maintaining his concealed identity during the confrontation with Bo Saixi 59 64.
• High-level combat: At level 99, he counters the Evil Emperor’s Light of Destruction and intercepts a spiritual attack aimed at Azure Luan 60.

Mental Control and Illusions

• Mental control: Can subtly influence a target toward ideas close to their existing beliefs; he uses it in political persuasion and once makes infant Ning Rongrong say “Daddy.” Bibi Dong breaks free when he demonstrates a more direct use on her 5 28 37.
• Illusions: Creates a realistic false injury to prank Qian Renxue. He judges the technique potentially useful for supporting attacks 71.
