"My name is Zhou Yi, and I'm your new homeroom teacher. I don't know how many of you will last the coming year with me, but I'll tell you this: in my class, no trash will pass the assessments."
"I'm here to train monsters, not a bunch of fools!" Zhou Yi's voice was unusually hoarse, as grating as fingernails scraping across a blackboard.
Zhou Yi's words left many students looking indignant. Nearly everyone who passed the entrance assessment and entered Shrek Academy was an outstanding talent from somewhere on the continent, yet she had just called them fools.
Xiang Jun frowned, a cold glint flashing through his eyes.
He had seen plenty of teachers, but this was his first time meeting one as overbearing as Zhou Yi.
He stole a glance at Tang Wutong beside him. Just as he expected, she was on the verge of losing her temper. Her beautiful pink-and-blue eyes glared at the podium. In that calm before the storm, she looked ready to pull out her Clear Sky Hammer and crack Zhou Yi over the head.
Zhou Yi seemed not to notice Tang Wutong's stare. She continued speaking from the podium, her tone flat. "Stand up if you've gotten into a fight since registration began."
At her words, everyone in the classroom looked from one another to the next. For a moment, not a single person stood.
Zhou Yi's expression, blank until then, darkened with anger. "What a bunch of good-for-nothings! Don't you know that anyone afraid to cause trouble is mediocre? All of you, get outside and run a hundred laps around Shrek Square. Anyone who fails to finish is expelled!"
The class erupted the moment she finished. It was only the first day of school, and they had not even had a lesson yet. Now they were being punished for not fighting.
Xiang Jun could barely take it anymore. "Anyone afraid to cause trouble is mediocre," and "There are no useless martial souls, only useless soul masters" were surely the two most ridiculous sayings in Douluo.
Bang!
Before Xiang Jun could do anything, Tang Wutong stood up beside him and slammed her palm onto the desk. The dull thud drew every eye in the room.
"I object! We haven't done anything wrong. What gives you the right to punish us?"
Her sharp challenge stunned not only the other freshmen, but Xiang Jun too.
Well, she is the daughter of a God King. You have to give her credit for guts!
As Zhou Yi's face grew darker, Xiang Jun, who had been enjoying the show, had a sudden idea. He leaned toward Tang Wutong and whispered, adding fuel to the fire. "Well said, Wutong. We're all one-in-ten-thousand talents. Why should we put up with this?"
"Keep it up. I'll be right behind you, cheering you on!"
"Stay strong. Don't back down!"
Tang Wutong froze. This was the first time in days Xiang Jun had spoken to her of his own accord.
"Hmph!" Tang Wutong gave a haughty snort. Something felt a little odd, but she could not help feeling pleased.
See that, you old hag? Even Xiang Jun agrees with me!
Zhou Yi had seen plenty of freshmen dare to contradict her in public. But Tang Wutong's superior attitude grated on her nerves.
"Hah. What gives me the right? I'm your homeroom teacher. I have the authority to expel any student who refuses to obey!" Zhou Yi said coldly.
As the homeroom teacher of Freshman Class One, Zhou Yi had received information on every student days ago. The girl who dared talk back to her was unmistakably Tang Wutong.
Rank thirty-seven, the top-tier Light Goddess Butterfly martial soul, and an unheard-of thousand-year second soul ring...
Zhou Yi narrowed her eyes. Had this been an ordinary student, she would have sent them flying already.
But Tang Wutong...
Zhou Yi felt uneasy. Dean Yan was keeping a close eye on this student. She did not dare expel her on a whim.
Put simply, she bullied the weak and feared the strong.
"Homeroom teacher? Pfft!"
Tang Wutong scoffed, her gaze full of mockery. "You're just an ordinary teacher with mediocre talent. Stop throwing your weight around. This princess isn't buying it!"
"Hmph. You think a petty bit of authority makes you somebody? Go take a look in the mirror. There are more than a dozen soul masters in this class with more talent than you. You've merely lived a few decades longer than us."
Tang Wutong's relentless verbal assault left Zhou Yi red-eyed and breathing hard with rage.
How many years has it been?
How many years since a student dared speak to me like that?
"Fine, fine, fine! Disrespectful, unruly, and arrogant about your talent! Tang Wutong, as the homeroom teacher of Freshman Class One, I hereby declare..."
"You're expelled!"
The moment the words left her mouth, Zhou Yi regretted them. But to preserve her authority before the students, she could only pray that her husband, Fan Yu, could withstand the pressure from the Martial Soul Department.
"What? You're expelling Tang Wutong? I won't stand for it!"
"Yeah! Why should we be punished when we haven't done anything wrong? We object!"
"Brothers, it's time to stand together..."
With her breathtaking beauty and a talent rarely seen in the world, Tang Wutong had amassed a crowd of devoted admirers despite having only just enrolled.
Zhou Yi's declaration had stirred up everyone's anger.
Seeing so many people support her, Tang Wutong gave a proud little snort and shot Xiang Jun a challenging look.
See? You might not want to pay attention to me, but plenty of others do!
You'd better appreciate this princess while you can!
As the classroom slipped further from her control, Zhou Yi shook with rage. If looks could kill, Tang Wutong would already have been chopped to pieces.
"Silence!"
Her Soul Power-laced roar exploded in everyone's minds. The students gradually fell quiet, though they continued glaring at her.
Zhou Yi swept a cold gaze over the room, at a loss for what to do.
I can't expel every boy in the class. I'd be out of a job myself!
As Zhou Yi struggled to find a solution, her gaze fell on a blond boy quietly enjoying the spectacle in the distance, then on Xiang Jun beside Tang Wutong.
A brilliant idea took shape in her mind.
So you're geniuses? Then I'll knock you down a peg!
"Everyone, assemble at the Soul Arena!"
"Dean Yan, aren't you being a little too hard on her?"
Hard on who? That madwoman Zhou Yi?
You must be out of your mind!
How many talented students has that madwoman expelled from our Martial Soul Department over the years? If not for Fan Yu, would she still be teaching at Shrek?
One day, she might just turn up dead with a knife in her back—and have it ruled a suicide!
