The three of them kept running along the dirt road around the village.
Dust rose beneath their feet and settled again.
By the time they finished three laps, a thin sheen of sweat had appeared on Ning Rongrong's forehead, and her breathing had grown much heavier.
But her eyes were still bright, and she hadn't slowed a step.
Tang San ran at the back, his chest beginning to feel tight.
He stared at the two figures ahead of him, his confusion mounting.
At last, he couldn't help grumbling to himself.
How is this possible? Ning Rongrong hasn't even complained about being tired? In my previous life, she ran less than one lap before heading straight to Suotuo City to shop. She didn't come back until dark, and Flender gave her such a scolding that she nearly cried.
Then Flender sent Oscar to comfort her, and Ning Rongrong humiliated him instead. She hurled every insult she could think of at him.
And that lapdog Oscar just kept groveling. She was sitting down, and he might as well have been on his knees. I nearly died laughing.
I don't know what Oscar sees in her. She humiliates him like that, and he still grovels at her feet.
The thought made the corners of Tang San's mouth lift as he ran. After a few more steps, he added,
Born to be a lapdog, I guess.
If Oscar weren't useful, would he and Ning Rongrong have inherited the divine positions of the Nine-Colored Goddess and the God of Food and gained Resurrection Divine Light? I wouldn't give someone like him a second glance otherwise.
Oscar was running half a step behind Ning Rongrong.
When he heard Tang San's thoughts, his foot caught, and a jutting stone nearly sent him sprawling.
He steadied himself and kept running.
Bullshit! Tang San, you son of a bitch, all you do is spew bullshit!
I'm Oscar, a support-type Soul Master with Innate Full Soul Power. There's never been anyone like me in history, and I'm supposed to grovel after Ning Rongrong?
How is that possible? She humiliates me, and I go crawling back?
What would that make me? Do you think I enjoy being abused?
Could you use your brain before making things up? I'm handsome and talented. Why would I need to grovel after anyone?
Tang San, do you have to return that mouth of yours by nightfall? Is that why you never stop running it?
He ran another half lap, but his anger still hadn't faded.
Sure, I think Ning Rongrong is pretty, and I'd be happy to court her. But only if things are normal between us. If they aren't, I'd just be acting like a dog.
I've figured it out, Tang San. You don't have a brain at all.
You look down on me? Well, I look down on you! You've got lousy Blue Silver Grass and a ten-year first Spirit Ring, and you're only a support type. What are you so smug about? You strut around like a complete idiot.
Oscar pulled out some Recovery Tofu and stuffed two pieces into his mouth.
Warmth slid down his throat. His strength returned noticeably, and even his breathing eased.
Tang San's voice came from behind him.
"Oscar, can you give me a piece of Recovery Tofu? I'm getting hungry too."
Oscar glanced back at him, wearing a cheerful smile.
He scratched the back of his head, his tone sounding quite sincere.
"That's tricky. We've barely run any laps yet, and I'm worried I won't have enough Soul Power later."
"Don't worry. When you really can't keep going, I'll definitely give you some."
"We have to save it for later, right? If we use it now, there won't be any left."
"Why don't you eat some of your Blue Silver Grass first? It's a plant too. A couple of bites won't hurt."
He paused, then added,
"Or I've got plenty of hot water in my storage Soul Tool. Want some hot water to take the edge off your hunger?"
Tang San's expression shifted.
"Huh? Hot water on my cock? Wouldn't that scald it?"
Oscar froze, blinked, then suddenly cried out, his voice rising.
"Hey, Tang San! What are you talking about? What would get scalded?"
"There's a girl here, and you're making dirty jokes?"
"Ning Rongrong's right beside us. Watch what you say!"
"Shrek Academy might be a school for monsters, but we still have standards!"
Tang San was so taken aback that he couldn't answer.
He opened his mouth, but Oscar had already turned back to the road. He hummed some tuneless little song as he ran, looking thoroughly pleased with himself.
Tang San ran a few more steps, holding in his anger, but the fire inside him only burned hotter.
He knew he couldn't turn on Oscar now, so he gritted his teeth and kept running.
Goddamn it, Oscar!
You're messing with me on purpose, aren't you, you bastard?
Just you wait!
I'll put up with it because you're still useful!
Only those who endure what others cannot can accomplish great things!
Once I grow stronger, not one of you clowns will get away.
Oscar, I'll remember what you did to me today.
Oscar heard every word of Tang San's seething thoughts from up ahead.
He held himself back from looking around, but his grin stretched almost from ear to ear.
The thought that he could mess with Tang San however he liked,
and Tang San would have no choice but to take it, delighted him.
He had plenty to look forward to now!
Messing with Tang San!
What a champion at swallowing his anger.
Keep swallowing it. Let's see how long you last.
Let's see whether I drive you to your death first or you finally snap.
You're a support type with a ten-year first Spirit Ring, yet you never stop running your mouth.
You came from Nuoding Academy with Ye Lin. You even shared a dorm with him for six years. Did it never occur to you to get on his good side?
Instead of seeking his help, you spend all day thinking about how to use people. You haven't got a brain in your head.
And you're supposed to have been reborn?
His steps grew lighter as he thought about it, and the little tune he was humming rose half a note.
Running ahead, Ning Rongrong heard the two of them and curled her lip.
Two creeps. One's more annoying than the other.
After cursing them silently, she turned her wrist. Light flashed from the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda in her palm, and the speed boost from her Second Spirit Skill settled over her.
Her steps instantly became lighter. She swept forward like a gust of wind, her skirt tracing a crisp arc through the air.
In the blink of an eye, she had left them both far behind.
Oscar stared at Ning Rongrong's suddenly receding figure, momentarily stunned.
Then he quickened his pace, trying to catch up.
At the back, Tang San watched the two figures pull farther and farther away. The tightness in his chest returned.
He gritted his teeth and tried to chase them, but every step felt heavier than the last.
Why are ten laps so exhausting?
I don't know if I can keep going.
Is a support type's physique really that much weaker than a control type's?
