"Oscar hadn't broken through yet, hadn't even gone to Star Dou Forest, and this was only the first day of the school term, yet Gangzi was already standing on the Training Ground?"
A thin sheen of sweat broke out across Tang San's back.
His mind raced, searching for a reasonable explanation for this change in timing.
Did my rebirth change something?
But this is too much!
He clenched his fists and stared straight at Yu Xiaogang.
Xiao Wu looked back at him. "Tang San, what are you standing there for? Come on!"
Tang San snapped out of it. "...Coming."
He hurried into line and stood beside Ye Lin, but his gaze kept drifting toward Yu Xiaogang.
Flender raised a hand for silence. "All right, everyone's here."
"Let me formally introduce the teachers."
"This is Zhao Wuji. You met him yesterday. He's in charge of combat training."
"The others are Shao Xin, Li Yusong, and Lu Qibin."
Finally, Flender turned and gestured toward Yu Xiaogang.
"This is Yu Xiaogang. You can call him Grandmaster. From today on, Grandmaster will plan and direct most of the academy's courses. The rest of us will follow his teaching plan." He paused, his tone growing a shade more serious.
"If my instructions ever conflict with Grandmaster's, follow his."
Everyone nodded. No one objected.
Standing in line, Ye Lin glanced at Yu Xiaogang. He knew his teacher really intended to put down roots at Shrek Academy this time.
But Tang San could no longer contain his shock.
He quickly looked along the line.
Dai Mubai, Ma Hongjun, and Oscar showed no particular reaction, as though they had known about Yu Xiaogang all along.
Tang San's head buzzed.
None of them was the slightest bit surprised to see Yu Xiaogang.
It was as if Gangzi had always belonged here.
But it wasn't like this in my previous life! Gangzi didn't show up until after we came back from the Star Dou Great Forest!
What's going on?
Did Yu Xiaogang come to Shrek Academy earlier this time?
Tang San's thoughts appeared in the minds of Dai Mubai, Ma Hongjun, and Oscar.
None of the three spoke, but they were all thinking the same thing.
He dares call Grandmaster by name? And even calls him Gangzi?
He's insulting our Grandmaster!
That brat must have a death wish.
We'll teach him a lesson when we get the chance.
Yu Xiaogang stood before the line with his hands behind his back.
He had heard Tang San's thoughts too.
A smile rose at the corners of his mouth.
He silently replied, Tang San, Tang San. If not for you, I really wouldn't have come this early.
But thanks to you, I arrived at Shrek Academy years ago.
I have to say, your cultivation technique is incredible.
Tang San stood in line with his eyes lowered, struggling to calm himself.
Whatever happens, the lessons should be more or less the same.
In my previous life, Flender put Ning Rongrong through the wringer in the first lesson. He'd received a letter from Ning Fengzhi asking him to discipline his headstrong daughter.
So Flender made Oscar lead Ning Rongrong on twenty laps around the village. He called it stamina training for support-type Soul Masters, but he was really trying to embarrass her.
She probably won't escape it this time either. Flender should have received the letter at the same time.
Hearing Tang San's thoughts, Flender blinked his small eyes behind his glasses and looked thoughtful.
Twenty laps around the village?
I was still wondering how hard to make Ning Rongrong's first lesson. Running isn't a bad idea.
Simple, straightforward, and it'll show me what they're made of.
Tang San might not be much of a person, but his ideas are useful.
Wait. What do I mean, Tang San's ideas?
It's my idea! I did exactly that in the previous life!
Flender cleared his throat and raised his voice. "Combat-type Soul Masters, your first lesson is tonight. You can go back and rest for now. Support-type Soul Masters, your first lesson starts now."
His gaze swept along the line before settling on three people. "Ning Rongrong, Oscar, Tang San, step forward!"
Flender walked up to the three of them with his hands behind his back.
"What matters most to a support-type Soul Master on the battlefield? Being able to run fast."
"So your first lesson is simple. Oscar, lead them around the edge of the village for twenty laps. No lunch unless you finish."
"You're allowed to use Soul Power."
Oscar sighed in resignation and started running toward the academy gates.
Ning Rongrong followed without a word.
Only Tang San remained where he was.
"Why aren't you running?" Flender called from behind him.
"Aren't you a support-type Soul Master?"
Tang San swallowed the words on the tip of his tongue, turned, and chased after Oscar and Ning Rongrong.
Only then did he remember that he was a support-type Soul Master now, not a control-type Soul Master.
The three ran along the dirt road around the village.
Oscar led the way.
Ning Rongrong followed three or four paces behind him.
Tang San ran last, head down, his feet moving mechanically.
Ning Rongrong will run out of steam soon. With that spoiled-princess attitude of hers, there's no way she'll obediently finish twenty laps.
She'll head straight to Suotuo City to eat, drink, and shop, then come back when she's had her fill.
Flender will give her a dressing-down and make her cry her eyes out.
That's what happened in my previous life, after all.
Who would've thought her father was behind it?
Then again, Ning Rongrong is a brainless idiot. A complete moron.
Her family spoiled her rotten. They probably don't really take her seriously. The easiest way to deal with a fool is to indulge her until she becomes an even bigger fool.
Otherwise, they'd never have let a guy like Oscar win her over later.
Ning Rongrong's pace was steady.
But when Tang San's thoughts reached her, she stumbled half a step before catching herself.
She gritted her teeth and kept running.
What? Dad asked Flender to teach me a lesson?
As she ran, she clenched her back teeth.
Ning Rongrong's breathing grew heavier, but her pace did not slow in the slightest.
What does he mean, my family doesn't take me seriously? He thinks I can't keep going? That I can't finish twenty laps?
She turned those words over and over in her mind, and each time, her anger burned hotter.
I'll finish them today! I'll show all of you!
With that thought, she drove herself harder, lengthening her stride.
She glanced sideways at Oscar, who had fallen half a step behind her.
The thought of Tang San saying Oscar would eventually win her over made her stomach churn.
She looked away and gave a silent snort.
What's so great about Oscar?
That disgusting creep.
I'd actually fall for him?
I must have been desperate in my previous life.
Apparently, I'd swallow anything.
