Yu Xiaogang froze.
Tang San's thoughts poured into his ears.
In my last life, I listened to Gangzi and took the control path. I even focused on poison.
By the later stages, the poison was useless, and my restraints couldn't hold anyone.
I had so many Hundred Thousand Year Soul Rings, but I wasted them all on a dead-end path. In the end, I had no choice but to fight head-on with my second Martial Soul.
The Blue Silver Emperor's greatest strength was never control. It was vitality. Boundless, inexhaustible vitality.
That was the Blue Silver Emperor's true trump card, ten thousand times stronger than any damned control ability.
This time, I'll take the support path, focusing on healing and enhancements. Paired with the direct offense of my second Martial Soul, they'll complement each other. It'll be far better than that lousy control path.
Once I absorb the Hundred Thousand Year Soul Bone my mother left me in the cave behind the waterfall on the mountain behind Holy Soul Village, my vitality and attack power will both reach their peak!
Tang San looked up at Yu Xiaogang.
"I want to take the support path and focus on healing."
The Blue Silver Emperor? Vitality? Hundred Thousand Year Soul Rings?
That was a lot to take in.
And apparently, there was a Hundred Thousand Year Soul Bone in a cave behind the waterfall on the mountain behind Holy Soul Village!
He would have to find a chance to take a look.
For now, that Hundred Thousand Year Soul Bone was all Yu Xiaogang could think about.
"Fine. If you want to take the support path, then do it."
"I'm not your teacher. I won't interfere."
Tang San grunted in acknowledgment.
At least Gangzi isn't hounding me to take the control path like he did in my last life.
Good thing I didn't make him my teacher. Otherwise, I'd have had to argue with him about it.
Ye Lin was a little surprised by Tang San's choice. A vitality-based support path?
Then again, without Yu Xiaogang's guidance in this life, Tang San could take any path.
The group continued deeper into Soul Hunting Forest for another half hour.
Sigma, who was leading the way, suddenly stopped.
He pointed at two plants beside a thicket.
"Look. Something over there."
There was a ten-year-old Lone Bamboo, with a ten-year-old Blue Silver Grass beside it.
Yu Xiaogang walked over and examined them before turning to Tang San. "Since you want to focus on vitality, that Blue Silver Grass looks suitable."
"It may be young, but its attributes suit you. It should strengthen your foundation. A Ten-Year Soul Ring would also be easy to absorb, with little risk."
Tang San went still.
He stared at the ten-year-old Blue Silver Grass, his mouth twitching.
Ten years?
He expects me, the reincarnation of a God King, to absorb a worthless ten-year Spirit Ring?
I'd be better off going back and killing Old Jack. Even the Spirit Ring he'd drop would be older than this Blue Silver Grass.
Gangzi, did a door slam on your fucking head? How can you suggest I absorb a Ten-Year Soul Ring?
My first Spirit Ring in my last life came from a four-hundred-year-old Mandala Snake, and now you want me to absorb a ten-year-old Blue Silver Grass?
Are you insane? Are you doing this to screw me over? You'd love to see me ruined, wouldn't you, you bastard...
Standing beside him, Yu Xiaogang heard every word of the tirade.
His mouth twitched, but he kept himself from laughing.
Tang San took a deep breath.
"I won't absorb it. A Ten-Year Soul Ring is too young. I want a hundred-year Spirit Ring, and it has to be at least four hundred years old."
Yu Xiaogang and Sigma exchanged a glance.
Sigma was the first to lose his composure. He burst out laughing.
Yu Xiaogang shook his head too.
"Tang San, I'm not your teacher. Absorb it if you want. If you don't, then don't."
"I came here to find a suitable Spirit Ring for my disciple Ye Lin. You just came along for the ride. And you're still being this picky?"
Yu Xiaogang thought to himself,
I'll find you a Ten-Year Soul Ring to absorb. A future God King, are you?
Let's see how you become one!
Only then did Tang San remember.
He was not Yu Xiaogang's disciple.
He had merely been brought along on this trip. Ye Lin was the one who mattered; Tang San was just an extra.
In his past life, the mighty reincarnated God King had been unrivaled across the continent. Now he was being treated as a burden they had brought along.
Tang San fell silent for a moment.
"Let's see if we find anything better farther in. If we don't, we can come back for it. Keep it as a backup."
That night, the group rested beneath a large tree in Soul Hunting Forest.
A rustling came from the southeast, and four or five pairs of eerie green eyes lit up in the dark.
Ten-year-old Netherworld Wolves.
Sigma did not even lift his eyelids. A pale yellow wave of Soul Power swept out. The wolves yelped as though struck by an invisible wall and went tumbling several yards. They scrambled to their feet and fled with their tails between their legs.
The Netherworld Wolves had barely left when a heavy, rapid scraping sound came from the other side of the forest.
Firelight revealed the approaching creature's outline.
It was a dark green giant snake, nearly four meters long.
A four-hundred-year-old Mandala Snake.
Tang San's heart skipped a beat. It's here!
Sigma stood, rolled his neck, and walked toward the snake.
A brief, violent commotion followed.
The Mandala Snake collapsed in a limp heap. Its tail twitched twice, then went still.
A yellow Spirit Ring rose from its body.
Sigma shook the slime off his hand and glanced back at Yu Xiaogang.
"Clean up. We'll deal with it tomorrow."
Tang San sat beside the fire, staring at the snake's corpse.
In his last life, he had absorbed a Mandala Snake's Spirit Ring. It had been strong early on, but useless later. This time, he would make a different choice.
He might be weaker at first, but his strength in the later stages would improve enormously.
The next morning, the group spent another half hour or so searching the forest before Yu Xiaogang suddenly stopped.
In the middle of a clearing ahead, a burly, brown-furred ape squatted on the ground, gnawing on a thick branch.
Its shoulders were as broad as a wall, and its arms were thick and powerful.
Standing, it would be taller than a man. Its entire body radiated strength.
"A Mighty Ape, around four hundred years old."
Yu Xiaogang studied it for a while, then nodded in satisfaction.
"A Strength-type soul beast. Its attributes are highly compatible with your Body Martial Soul."
"That's the one."
Sigma wasted no words. He lunged forward.
Sensing danger, the Mighty Ape sprang up, beat its chest, and roared. Then it swung a massive fist down at Sigma.
Sigma sidestepped and struck the ape in the ribs with his palm.
As Soul Power surged into it, the enormous beast crashed to the ground. It struggled twice, then lay still.
Yu Xiaogang stood beside Ye Lin.
"Sit down, close your eyes, and guide your Soul Power out to touch the Spirit Ring."
"Take it slowly. Don't rush."
Ye Lin sat as instructed, took a deep breath, and slowly guided his Soul Power out of his body.
The yellow Spirit Ring rose from the Mighty Ape's corpse and drifted toward him.
Tang San watched from several yards away. He looked indifferent, but jealousy burned fiercely inside him.
It's fine,
Tang San told himself.
It's just a lousy four-hundred-year Spirit Ring.
Once I find a way to get Xiao Wu to sacrifice herself for me, I'll have a Hundred Thousand Year Soul Ring.
What matters is being strong later on!
A temporary setback means nothing!
