"Hey, Huo Yuhao, do you know Dong'er?"
Seeing the two greet each other, the petite Xiao Xiao asked curiously.
Before Huo Yuhao could answer, Wang Dong spoke first.
"We do. He used to be my younger brother's roommate."
"Roommate?" In an instant, Huo Yuhao seemed to understand why Wang Dong'er had said that.
He glanced at Wang Dong'er with a half-smile.
Wang Dong'er, proud as ever, met his gaze with a rare trace of pleading in her eyes.
"Oh, right. I used to share a dorm room with her younger brother, Wang Dong."
Then Huo Yuhao gave Wang Dong'er a pointed look. "I just don't know where Wang Dong has gone these past few days."
Xiao Xiao blinked her large, bright eyes. "I know! Dong'er sent her younger sister home. She said Wang Dong was embarrassing herself at school, so she might as well go home and inherit the family business."
Huo Yuhao was about to say more when he sensed something amiss in the atmosphere.
The classroom was still noisy, but at some point, an elderly-looking female teacher with a face full of wrinkles had appeared in the doorway.
With his current mental strength, Huo Yuhao could easily see through her aged face. It was a mask made of human skin. Behind it was a rather pretty young teacher. This had to be his homeroom teacher, Zhou Yi.
Though he had seen through Zhou Yi's disguise, Huo Yuhao had no intention of exposing her. The less trouble, the better.
Perhaps Zhou Yi's mask was simply that effective. The students who had been making a racket in the classroom—
The moment they saw her stern, fierce face, they fell silent as cicadas in winter, not daring to make a sound.
Zhou Yi surveyed the quiet classroom with satisfaction. She walked slowly to the lectern and wrote two large characters on the blackboard: Zhou Yi.
"I'm the homeroom teacher of Freshman Class One. My name is Zhou Yi."
As she spoke, she swept her sharp gaze over everyone present.
"I don't care what kind of heaven-blessed prodigies you were back home. Here at Shrek Academy, you're not worth a damn!"
Some students bristled at her words and tried to stand up and argue, but their desk mates hurriedly pulled them back down.
"Now, anyone who's been in a fight over the past few days, stand up."
Zhou Yi's words baffled the students below. Who got into a fight before the freshman term had even begun?
As whispers spread through the room, two chairs scraped back near the rear of the classroom.
Everyone turned to see what fearless souls had dared to fight before school started. At the back stood a boy and a girl: Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong'er.
Xiao Xiao, sitting beside them, looked surprised.
Didn't these two know each other? Why would they fight?
Seeing that only two people had stood up in the enormous classroom, Zhou Yi's face fell.
"Only two? What a bunch of cowards. Every one of you, get outside and run a hundred laps."
The classroom erupted. Students began arguing among themselves, and someone even spoke up. "Teacher, why do we have to run laps just because we didn't fight?"
"Because I told you to. Enough nonsense. Anyone who fails is expelled on the spot!"
"Teacher, you're abusing your authority!"
Zhou Yi merely cast the speaker a sidelong glance.
"At Shrek, my authority as your homeroom teacher is unlimited!"
With that, Zhou Yi glanced at the clock at the back of the classroom and added, "You have one class period."
Chaos broke out. Students sprang from their seats and rushed toward the field outside.
Xiao Xiao was the last to leave. Before she went, she gave Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong'er a worried look. She was afraid the classmates she had only just met would be expelled.
Once everyone else had left, Zhou Yi walked up to the pair.
"Well? Why did you fight?"
Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong'er exchanged a glance, unsure what Teacher Zhou was after.
"We were just sparring."
To their surprise, Zhou Yi nodded at the explanation.
"Sparring is good. Sparring helps you improve."
Both of them breathed a sigh of relief. Judging by Zhou Yi's tone earlier, Huo Yuhao had thought they might be expelled over the fight.
Even if he were expelled, Huo Yuhao could return to the Star Luo Royal Academy to study. But he had yet to collect what Dai Huabin owed him.
If he missed this chance, he would have to wait for the continent-wide tournament in two years to make his preparations.
He did not want to miss it. He had also heard that the White Tiger Duke's eldest son, Dai Yueheng, studied at Shrek and was now one of the Shrek Seven Devils in the inner court.
Huo Yuhao had another reason for coming to Shrek Academy: to try to win over some of Shrek's factions. He did not need them to take his side, but when the time came to settle accounts with the White Tiger Family, they had to remain neutral at the very least.
Zhou Yi's next words, however, left both of them stunned.
"Very good. As a reward, you two will run twenty extra laps."
Wang Dong'er stared at her. "Teacher, didn't you say sparring was good? Why do we have to run twenty more laps?"
"It's training. Aren't you going to start? Five minutes have already passed."
Huo Yuhao caught Wang Dong'er before she could say anything else and shook his head. Then he pulled her toward the classroom door.
"Why did you stop me?"
Huo Yuhao looked at the bristling Wang Dong'er and said evenly, "She's a teacher at Shrek Academy. Aren't you worried she'll expel you on the spot? I heard she loves expelling students on a whim."
He had asked around the academy earlier. Zhou Yi was infamous in the outer court for her explosive temper.
Her class had a higher expulsion rate than the other nine freshman classes combined.
Some even said her class had the highest advancement rate in the entire academy.
Huo Yuhao scoffed at that claim. If she expelled every student who could not advance, of course her advancement rate would be high.
At that, Wang Dong'er stopped making a fuss. The two caught up with the rest of their class and began running laps around the field.
As Huo Yuhao focused on running, Wang Dong'er's voice came from beside him.
"Hey, Huo Yuhao. Dare to race me and see who's faster?"
Huo Yuhao turned, saw her challenging expression, and curved his lips into a smile.
"Sure. Let's find out."
Wang Dong'er had not expected Huo Yuhao to accept. Given how easily he had pulled her into an illusion a few days earlier, he was probably a Soul Master with a Mental Attribute Martial Soul.
She did not believe Huo Yuhao could outrun her, even if his Soul Power was more than ten levels above hers.
Suddenly, Wang Dong'er gave Huo Yuhao a wicked grin. "You can't outrun me. Believe it?"
