Appearance

SCP-096 is a tall, gaunt humanoid with little apparent muscle. It commonly curls up with its face hidden behind its hands 12 23.

• Its limbs are nearly one and a half times the length of an ordinary person's, and its joints can twist to an unusual degree 12.
• Its eyes appear hollow; whether it can see is unknown 12.

Behavior

SCP-096 is usually docile, pacing near a wall or sitting still with its face covered. Seeing its face causes it to scream, cry, and become severely distressed before it attacks the viewer. Foundation brainwave tests have not found normal brain function, leading researchers to infer that it cannot think normally 12.

Abilities & Skills

Face-triggered pursuit

• Anyone who sees SCP-096's face—directly, in a photograph, or in video—becomes a target. It begins pursuit after approximately one to two minutes and appears to sense the target's location regardless of distance 12.
• It distinguishes targets from others: while attacking Giant Wolf warriors aboard a fleet, it did not directly attack the Gluttonous personnel among them 19.
• Processed footage that does not show its real face does not trigger pursuit 14.
• Its rule has a documented exception: after an encounter with SCP-682, SCP-096 did not attack when SCP-682 was shown its face 17.

Speed and destructive force

• During its pursuit of the Giant Wolf Civilization, SCP-096 traveled faster than light, destroyed two thousand battleships in under ten seconds, and continued across star systems to reach fleeing targets 19 22.
• It ran through planets, stars, white dwarfs, and black holes without stopping or slowing 21.
• Once its targets were dead, it became still again 22.

Regeneration and resistance

• SCP-096 re-formed after SCP-343 crushed it into a ball of flesh, burned it to ash, and attacked it with planet-scale force 15 16.
• It also escaped after being flattened into a two-dimensional image and bombarded for more than ten minutes 16.
• These encounters do not establish that SCP-096 is impossible to destroy, but no attack shown in the released footage ended its pursuit of SCP-343 15 16.

Story Role / Major Arcs

• Creation and breach: Jiang Chen fabricated SCP-096 in three days. The Foundation later announced that it had escaped containment and released its file to warn viewers about the danger of seeing its face 9 12.
• Interaction experiments: A Foundation doctor showed SCP-343 a photograph of SCP-096, provoking a prolonged confrontation. A separate written record reported that SCP-096 withdrew in extreme distress after fighting SCP-682 14 15 16 17.
• Giant Wolf Civilization: Jiang Chen transmitted SCP-096's photograph to the civilization's collective consciousness, making its intelligent members targets. SCP-096 destroyed its fleet, killed hundreds of millions on Julang Star, and pursued survivors across space until the species was wiped out 18 19 21 22.
• Recontainment: The Foundation forced a captive Gluttonous warrior to view pixels of SCP-096's face, drawing it to a prepared facility. SCP-096 killed the captive and became still; the livestream ended before showing the containment procedure. Doctor Bai Ting later confirmed its transfer to a guarded base 22 23.

Relationships

• Jiang Chen — fabricated SCP-096 and used its photograph to trigger the pursuit of the Giant Wolf Civilization 9 18.
• SCP-343 — fought SCP-096 after viewing its photograph; repeated attacks failed to keep SCP-096 down in the footage released to the public 14 15 16.
• SCP-682 — fought SCP-096 in an earlier experiment. SCP-096 retreated and did not resume pursuit when SCP-682 later saw its face 17.
