Lin Yuntian watched until Li Yao and the others had vanished from sight. Only then did he turn around.
The false smile he had worn the whole time collapsed.
His face darkened like a storm cloud.
He looked down at the three figures still sprawled on the ground.
The tall and short elders were still unconscious, lying motionless as dead dogs.
Lin Yun was awake, though. He kept crying, "Dad, save me! Hurry!"
His voice shook with tears. Just hearing it grated on Lin Yuntian's nerves.
"Bring them into the hall."
Lin Yuntian flicked his sleeves and strode through the doors.
The Lin Family experts behind him exchanged glances. None of them said a word.
Finally, one crouched down and carefully wrapped the three men on the ground in Spiritual Power, then carried them into the hall after him.
Elsewhere.
"Young Master, I think we've made a mortal enemy of the Lin Family this time."
Li Wenbin muttered, worry written all over his face.
"I don't know if the master will blame us."
Li Wenbin was being carried through the air by Li Fu's Spiritual Power, but that did not stop him talking.
Li Yao sat atop Li Fu's Spiritual Power, his chin propped in both hands as he watched the city lights below.
"Don't worry, Uncle Bin."
He spoke.
"The Lin Family has had other plans for a long time. Have you forgotten what you found in your investigation?"
Li Wenbin paused at that.
He thought it over. It really was true.
If the Lin Family had no ulterior motives, why ask about the old master's injuries?
And why keep such close ties with the Shangguan Family?
At that thought, Li Wenbin fell silent.
Seeing that he had stopped talking, Li Yao went on.
"All we did today was collect a little interest ahead of time and turn it into strength of our own. That'll help us deal with them."
With that, he held out a hand to Li Wenbin for his storage ring.
"Uncle Bin, let me have your storage ring for a moment."
Li Wenbin hesitated, but handed it over.
Li Yao took it, drew out eighty thousand Spirit Stones from the three hundred thousand they had just obtained, and put them into Li Wenbin's ring.
Everyone stared.
"Young Master, what are you doing?"
Li Wenbin asked hurriedly.
"Keep fifty thousand for your cultivation."
Li Yao spoke.
"Share the other thirty thousand among the men who've helped these past few days. Keeping watch and tracking their movements was hard work too."
Li Wenbin opened his mouth, but no words came out.
Then Li Yao took out another one hundred thousand Spirit Stones and offered them to Li Fu and Uncle Ming.
"Uncle Fu, Uncle Ming, sorry to have put you through all this today."
Li Yao spoke.
"I know things are tight for you at the border. Please take these Spirit Stones as a gift from a junior."
Uncle Fu and Uncle Ming froze.
They were both seasoned veterans who had seen every kind of trouble.
Even so, they felt a little moved.
"Young Master, this..."
Uncle Fu hesitated.
"Take them, Uncle Fu."
Li Yao smiled.
"You've both done so much for the Li Family. I can't let you work for nothing."
Uncle Fu looked at Uncle Ming, who nodded.
Only then did Uncle Fu accept the Spirit Stones. His voice was a little hoarse. "Thank you, Young Master."
"Also, Uncle Fu, did you do something to the tall one and the short one?"
Earlier, on the way to the Lin Family estate, Lin Yun had asked Li Fu to do something to those two Martial Venerable Realm experts of the Lin Family.
Their cultivation would slowly decline, and they would never be able to advance again.
"Young Master, you can trust me. I guarantee they'll lose all their cultivation within a month."
"Good."
"Oh, right."
Li Yao took out another twenty thousand Spirit Stones and handed them to Uncle Fu.
"These twenty thousand are for Uncle Shan."
"You can give them to him later."
Uncle Fu paused again, then nodded.
"All right. I'll remember."
"Young Master, are we not going to the Yang Family now?"
Li Fu asked.
Li Yao shook his head.
"No. Straight home. I'm tired today, and I want to rest."
"Uncle Shan will handle things with the Yang Family."
He did not want to go to the Yang Family again. He was afraid that if he saw Yang Xiaoran's face once more, he would throw up again.
Night had fallen long ago.
The city lights shone below like rivers of light.
Li Yao felt exhausted in both body and mind.
All he wanted was to go home, get a good night's sleep, and forget everything that had happened today.
"You did well today, Young Master."
Li Wenbin spoke beside him.
"It was your first time facing something like this. Getting through it was no small feat."
Li Yao said nothing.
He leaned back against the Spiritual Power and closed his eyes.
Li Wenbin looked at him and sighed inwardly.
The boy would grow up eventually.
In the Lin Family hall.
Lin Yuntian sat in the seat of honor, his face livid as he stared at the three figures sprawled on the floor.
Lin Yun was still crying out, "Dad, save me! It hurts so much..."
"Shut up!"
Lin Yuntian roared.
Lin Yun flinched and did not dare make another sound.
"Go and ask the former family head to come."
Lin Yuntian spoke to someone nearby.
"Yes."
The man answered and went out.
Before long, a white-haired old man walked in.
He looked to be in his seventies or eighties, but his stride was steady and his gaze sharp.
It was Lin Chen.
"Yuntian, what happened?"
Lin Chen asked.
"Dad, look at them..."
Lin Yuntian pointed at the three figures on the floor.
Uncle Fu had placed the restraints on Lin Yun and the other two, and he was a High-Rank Martial King.
Apart from Lin Chen, the Lin Family's former head, and the first and second elders, no one else in the family could remove them.
The elders and guest experts present were Mid-Rank Martial Kings at best.
Lin Chen was in the Martial Emperor Realm, while the first and second elders were both Martial Sovereign experts.
But those two were in seclusion.
"Ah." Lin Chen sighed, but he still removed the restraints from all three men.
"The remaining wounds are only superficial. A little medicinal treatment will heal them in a couple of days."
"Can't you lot spare me some worry?"
"How many times have I told you? Li Fuhai isn't dead yet. We can't make a move. We can't."
He raised a hand and flicked Lin Yuntian on the forehead.
"You fool. You hid it from me and helped your foolish son go after Li Yao."
"If you'd succeeded, I wouldn't have said a word. But what happened? You failed, and then they came right to our door to rub it in our faces."
"If you weren't my son, I'd have killed you with one strike already."
Lin Chen made as if to slap Lin Yuntian, but lowered his hand in the end.
"Dad, I was wrong, I was wrong. But the Lin Family suffered such a huge loss today. I just can't stomach it."
Lin Yuntian kept talking.
"When is that old bastard going to die? His Dantian is shattered, yet he's held on this long. When can we finally make our move?"
Lin Chen smiled.
"Soon."
"I've received word that Li Fuhai's injuries are getting worse."
"Once he dies, the Li Family will be like fish on a chopping block. We can do whatever we want with them."
Delight flashed in Lin Yuntian's eyes.
"Good. Then I'll hold back a little longer."
"Once Li Fuhai dies, Li Yao will be the first little bastard I kill."
Lin Chen nodded.
"Take Lin Yun and the two elders away to have their wounds treated. Broken limbs are minor injuries. They'll heal soon."
"Once they've recovered, I have work for them to do."
"Yes."
Lin Yuntian answered and had someone take Lin Yun and the two elders away.
