Drip... drip... drip...
On the outskirts of Arabel, the tunnels beneath Selûne's temple opened into an unexpected world. A series of stone buildings stood here. Though no one had maintained them for many, many years, and parts of their structures had collapsed, a few areas remained usable.
Sand and dirt littered the hard floor of square stone tiles. The passage they had descended through had collapsed, leaving them unable to return to the surface the same way, but the Lady of Silver's apparition had already pointed out another route aboveground.
Aaron discovered that this was less a tunnel than an underground temple. Broken stone statues stood along the walls, and he recognized two of them. The first was the elven moon goddess, Sehanine Moonbow, whose holy symbol was a crescent moon. The second was Eilistraee, the Dark Maiden of the Drow, whose holy symbol depicted a naked woman dancing beneath the moon.
A little thought revealed just how much this implied. As the oldest moon goddess of the Chaotic Good alignment, Mama Selûne had very strong ties with many deities. Both Sehanine Moonbow and Eilistraee were close to her. Aaron even suspected that this temple in Arabel had been built atop the ruins of an Elven Empire temple.
But as far as Aaron knew, after Araushnee, queen-consort of the elven god-king Corellon, fell and became Lolth, Eilistraee-the daughter of Corellon and Araushnee-had rejected her father's pleas to stay and resolutely chosen to descend underground with her mother. Eilistraee therefore belonged to the subterranean elven pantheon and should not have shared a temple with Sehanine of the current Elven Pantheon.
Interesting. Was Mama Selûne trying to tell me something?
Several of them were injured, with Disma and Maximian hurt the worst. Disma proved remarkably tough. After receiving Aaron's Life Magic treatment,
