The journey to Baldur's Gate in search of Baal's Godspawn, Charname, and the Original Daemon Prince began after the snow melted at the start of Dalereckoning 1364. Aaron divided his forces into three groups, approaching Baldur's Gate from three directions.

The first group was led by his steward, Arien, and the others. Arien was not even a class-holder; he was a courteous aristocratic diplomat. Aaron arranged for him to travel with the Silver Trade Company, departing from the Sunset Lands as an official diplomatic delegation from Cormyr. They carried a large shipment of the company's goods and pretended that Aaron, Eleanor, and the others were also traveling with the caravan. The grand delegation, several hundred strong, made its way openly toward Baldur's Gate.

With the Legendary Paladin Hand of Dawn, the Near-Legendary Lady Silverstar, and Aaron's Knight Mentor Lucian among them, the group was more than equipped to handle most enemies.

The second group consisted of Dark Elf Sister Nastya. According to Aaron's arrangements, she would first visit the Underdark to discuss bringing in Duergar in bulk with the Church of Lolth. Aaron had given her a fairly clear limit on what he was willing to pay. Once negotiations were finished, she was to meet Samir in Baldur's Gate and investigate the city's situation ahead of him.

The third group was Aaron himself. After giving his older cousins Robert and Maximian a series of instructions, he entrusted the territory's affairs to Buer and Aegir.
