Divine portfolios were the most important reason for a deity's existence. They represented both the duties a deity had to fulfill and the source of their divine power.
In theory, provided their portfolios did not directly conflict-such as [Light] and [Darkness], [Order] and [Chaos], or [Justice] and [Evil]-a deity could hold an unlimited number of them.
As Selûne and Shar had once said, "As the Twin Goddesses of creation, our divine portfolios are limitless!"
Yet having limitless portfolios in theory was entirely different from putting that into practice. Only a dozen or so major portfolios could truly grant deities formidable divine power and combat strength.

The most typical example was the World Serpent. The Sarrukh had once worshipped him as a single entity, but as they grew more numerous and diverse, and introduced Serpentfolk, Wingfolk, Dragons, and other elements, the World Serpent was forced to develop multiple aspects to accommodate their different faiths. Ultimately, his insistence on "having it all" caused him to split apart.
Although Aaron theoretically encompassed a great many domains, his true core portfolios were [Strife] and [Murder]. That was why his divine name was the Lord of Reincarnation, rather than the God of Stockings.
