They hurriedly snatched a soldier's Telescope and looked toward the distant Chris.
Sure enough, they saw that the Chris was advancing steadily!
Leweir's face darkened. "The Chris Pirates chose a rather sudden time to attack."
"The newspaper only just came out, and they're already making their move?"
As Leweir watched the Chris draw closer, his eyes filled with worry.
Deputy Commander Grant nodded gravely. "His Majesty and the others are probably still discussing what to do."
"Their decision on how to deal with the Chris Pirates hasn't reached us yet."
"That means we're on our own!"
Leweir frowned deeply. "I'm afraid we can't wait for a decision from above."
"We'll have to handle this ourselves."
"If the Chris Pirates attack, we can't go wrong by fighting back."
"Even if that disrupts some plan from above, there's nothing we can do about it!"
Leweir's expression settled.
He had made up his mind to stop the Chris Pirates outside the port.
Grant shook his head slightly and sighed. "But with the troops we have, I'm afraid we won't hold out for long."
"Everyone's been on edge for so long, and now we're facing a sudden attack."
"Our forces won't last long."
Grant knew perfectly well that many of the soldiers were already at their limits. He could expect little from them.
Leweir frowned. "We hold them for as long as we can!"
"No matter what, we have to last until our main force arrives."
"We're the Pudora Kingdom's first line of defense. We can't fail when it matters most!"
With that, Leweir turned and summoned a soldier.
He ordered him, "Report what's happening here to Captain Isaac immediately!"
"Make sure Captain Isaac sends troops to reinforce us at once!"
