Now that they had reached the entrance to Blackwater Valley, climbing back up would be difficult.

In no time, Balam had climbed high above them.
He tossed down a rope, and Ben Beckman and the others only had to follow it up.
As they climbed, Longhair Jamal glanced at Ben Beckman with concern. "Boss Beckman, can we really pull this off with so few people?"
"I've heard the Charlotte Family's children are all vicious."
"If we end up fighting, we'll be completely outmatched."
Ben Beckman smiled calmly. "I've told you, force isn't the only way to solve a problem."
"Why not use your head more and your fists less?"
Longhair Jamal pursed his lips. "We're using our heads, all right."
"But what if the Charlotte Family refuses to listen to reason?"
"Won't it still come down to a fight?"
Pascal tossed his red curls. "Come on, Jamal. Don't you trust Boss Beckman?"
"If Boss Beckman says it'll be fine, it'll be fine."
"If Boss Beckman doesn't want the Charlotte Family to fight, they won't fight!"
Anthony scratched the back of his head and grinned. "That's right! You can always trust Boss Beckman."
"The best thing about following him is that you rarely have to fight."
"Even when the other side has us badly outnumbered, Boss Beckman can still make them think twice!"
Longhair Jamal could only shrug and concentrate on climbing.
