The two of them exchanged money for chips, then went their separate ways to enjoy themselves.
Adrian headed straight for a roulette table near the center of the casino floor.
Roulette was a common casino game. The wheel had thirty-seven numbers. A dealer spun it and tossed in a ball, and whichever slot the ball landed in became the winning number.
If the ball landed on zero, the house took everything.
A pale-gold chip rolled back and forth between Adrian's fingers. He studied the alternating black and red sections of the wheel with interest, then casually tossed his chip onto black.
There was nothing particularly special about this wheel. Even the most experienced dealer could not make the ball land on any precise number at will.
But of the thirty-six numbered slots, half were red and half were black. Even a complete novice had a fifty-percent chance of getting the color they wanted.
A more experienced dealer might not be able to hit a specific number, but could often send the ball into a chosen color with reasonable confidence.
The dealer, dressed in an alluring uniform, flicked the wheel with nimble fingers and sent the ball spinning.
When the wheel finally stopped, the ball had landed squarely on black!
"Beginner's luck..."
Adrian smiled as he accepted his winnings from the dealer.
He played a little longer, winning some and losing some, though he lost most of the time.
By the time most of his chips were gone, Adrian had finally had his fill. The gloom weighing on him had lifted too.
He closed his eyes briefly and activated Observation Haki. On the other side of the casino, he found Issho playing dice with a group of gamblers.
