Roland brought Hugo Strange back to the Church and locked him in the basement.

The Abandoned Church had a well-hidden basement. Roland had lived there for over a week without noticing it; the children had only found it while wandering around the Church.

Roland had no idea what the basement had been used for, but something about it felt a little strange.

The next day.

The Maroni Family searched all over Gotham City for Professor Hugo, but found nothing.

Roland lounged in the Church, reading comics with a box of chocolates beside him, popping one into his mouth every so often.

"Boss, some weirdo showed up. He says he wants to confess in the confessional."

"The confessional?" Roland froze, remembering a certain story about a nun and a fish. "Our Church offers that kind of service?"

"Most churches do. We don't offer any services to the public," his subordinate said bluntly. "But he just donated some money, and he's already waiting inside. How about you go service him?"

"What do you mean, 'service him'...? You make it sound so weird." Roland rolled his eyes and put on his vestments.

Roland entered the dimly lit Dark Room and walked over to the confessional.

The confessional was a small, dark booth. Believers who needed to pray or confess stayed inside while the priest listened from outside. They would open their hearts and ask the priest to forgive their sins.

For some people, pouring out their secrets lightened the burden on their souls and kept them from sinking deeper into the mire. Confession was meant to let people shake off the dust and face who they had been at heart.
