Background and History

Ichinose comes from a single-parent household. Her mother, Ichinose Soyo, works multiple jobs, and Ichinose worries about both her and her younger sister. Attending Advanced Nurturing High School eases some of the family’s expenses but separates her from home 20 38.

When Nangong Cheng offers Class B confidential information about the school for two million private points, teacher Chie Hoshinomiya asks Ichinose to negotiate. Ichinose questions what the documents contain, then puts the purchase to a class vote rather than deciding alone. Class B buys them and learns that the school’s promised graduation benefits are reserved for students who graduate from Class A 9 10.

Ichinose later proposes cooperation between Class B and Cheng’s Class D. She does not commit to an alliance when he asks what her class can offer in return, preferring to reassess the school and his position after a month 12.

After Student Council president Horikita Manabu rejects her initial application, Cheng offers her access to a Council position in exchange for letting him call her “Mom.” She reluctantly agrees. She subsequently joins the Council, where Akane Tachibana is assigned to train her for a possible secretary role 20 21 35.

Ichinose is considerate and protective of others, but often neglects her own needs. After noticing that she has barely eaten while caring for him, Cheng urges her to treat herself with the same kindness she shows other people 20 37.

Her kindness does not prevent her from questioning a deal or defending her class’s interests. She consults Class B before spending its points and later defends the practical value of Cheng’s information even while recognizing that his conduct was questionable 10 22. She is wary of the rewards offered by her mysterious system, particularly because her family’s financial hardship makes those rewards difficult to dismiss 10 20.
