After a hard-fought battle, Brock and Enka advanced to the second round.

But as Bai Shi saw it, they had advanced much the same way his own team had: Brock had done all the work.

The only difference was that Brock had far more Double Battle experience and a much better sense of teamwork than Bai Shi, so he could carry his partner.

He made it look as though the two of them worked well together.

In truth, Enka might not even have been as strong as Dawn.

If he and Dawn had faced Brock's team,

they could have repeated their first-round strategy:

launch a swift assault and take out Enka's Pokémon first.

Then they could turn and surround Brock.

Even Brock would have struggled to turn things around.

Besides, his team was in the lower half of the bracket with Ash and the others.

They were unlikely to fight their way through and meet Bai Shi in the upper half.

In my half of the bracket, Kōhei's team is the only strong one.

The other teams are all pretty average.

And Kōhei's in Group D, so I won't face him until the semifinals.

Get past him, and I'm in the final.

Bai Shi rested his chin on one hand as he silently worked through the bracket.

All the matches in the upper half had ended.

Four teams, including Bai Shi's, had advanced to the second round—a total of eight Pokémon Trainers.

From what Bai Shi had seen, Kōhei was the only one of those eight stronger than him.

The rest were nothing special.

No matter how well they worked together, Bai Shi was confident he could take out any one of their Pokémon.

Kōhei was the only one he wasn't sure about.
