Lü Yan bawled her eyes out. Why was her life so miserable? Yesterday, her dad had docked half her allowance, and today, she had learned that she wasn't even a supporting character—she was cannon fodder.
At the thought of those cannon-fodder characters who died as soon as they appeared in a novel, Lü Yan cried so hard it sounded like her heart was breaking.
Inside the room, Fang Yao looked toward the door in puzzlement. Who was crying out there? Why did they sound so heartbroken? Had someone in their family died?
Everyone else: ...Sis, it wasn't that serious -_-||
"What's going on outside? All that crying... Did she run into some thug? I'll go take a look." Fang Yao ran over excitedly.
Before the others could work out why Fang Yao was so excited, something occurred to them, and they hurried to stop her.
Another chance to fight! My hands are itching for it. (ΦωΦ)
"Sis, it's nothing. She probably just tripped." Yang Qi had no trouble calling Fang Yao "Sis," even though she was several years younger than him.
He simply didn't want Fang Yao getting excited. The events of two days ago were still vivid in his mind. They could do with fewer bloody scenes—he couldn't take it.
"Sis, I just remembered! I bought you some yogurt. Want it?" Bo Zhe held up the yogurt in his hand to tempt Fang Yao.
Those two could chat all they wanted outside. Why did they have to start bawling?
"Do I look that shallow to you?! Why is there only one bottle?" Fang Yao sounded disdainful, but her actions gave her away. She polished off the bottle in no time.
Fang Yao hadn't had enough. She frowned slightly and smacked her lips.
Bo Zhe: sweating -_-||
[My brother-in-law is so stingy. He only bought one bottle of yogurt. Oh~ so that's why. No wonder he's so stingy. For the yogurt's sake, I won't tell your friends that Bo Hanmo docked your entire allowance and left you broke. I'll spare you the teasing for now, so you won't lose face in front of all these people.]
Fang Yao looked at Bo Zhe sympathetically. At his age, he was still getting his allowance docked. Having his parents dock it wouldn't have been embarrassing. What was embarrassing was getting his allowance from a brother only a few years older than him—and still having it docked.
She would put in a good word for Bo Zhe with Bo Hanmo later and tell him not to dock his allowance at the drop of a hat. What if he went shopping with his girlfriend and discovered he didn't have enough money when it was time to pay? His embarrassment would stretch all the way to the Pacific Ocean.
Bo Zhe: Sis, thank you so much. Through gritted teeth (-"- angry)
Everyone: Oh~~~ →_→ contempt
Bo Zhe wiped away his sweat. That had backfired. "Sis, my allowance wasn't enough for two bottles," he said awkwardly. "This isn't your ordinary cheap yogurt."
Fang Yao thought, I know. One look at the brand tells me this yogurt isn't cheap.
Seeing Fang Yao look at him as though he were an idiot, Bo Zhe awkwardly averted his eyes. The others covered their mouths and snickered, with no intention of helping him out.
Under Bo Zhe's glare, Yang Qi finally broke the awkward silence. "Sis, is your strength hereditary?"
"Why are you asking?" Fang Yao tilted her head as she looked at Yang Qi.
"Sis, you don't know this, but this guy has dreamed of being a chivalrous hero since he was little. The kind who draws his sword whenever he sees injustice."
"Exactly. When I was little, he stopped me because I was the villain he needed to punish in the name of justice." Lu You burst out laughing.
"You had it better than me. He called me a thug who bullied girls. Heaven knows, someone else had made that girl cry. I was just passing by." Gong Yong grinned, touching his face with lingering apprehension.
"I had it better than either of you. The moment this guy opened his mouth, I knocked him flat." Bo Zhe crossed his legs and smugly mimed taking a drag on a cigarette and blowing out smoke.
Yang Qi's face flushed bright red as he looked at his friends. He covered one person's mouth, only for another to start talking. When he covered that one's mouth, the first started again. Running back and forth left him exhausted.
Seeing that nearly all his embarrassing secrets had been exposed, Yang Qi gave up and sprawled on the sofa like a dead fish.
Fang Yao laughed. Oh my, what a wonderful dream this guy had. Who hadn't suffered from youthful insanity... Oh, no, youthful spirit.
Bo Zhe and the others saw how happily Fang Yao was laughing. It wasn't a gloating laugh, but the heartfelt laughter of a kindred spirit. Bo Zhe asked uneasily, "Sis, don't you think it's hilarious?"
Fang Yao came back to her senses. "Hmm? What's so funny about it? I don't believe none of you ever did anything embarrassing as kids. My dream is to laze through life. Yang Qi, don't feel ashamed of your dream."
Yang Qi felt instantly comforted. If Fang Yao hadn't been married—and to Bo Hanmo, at that—he would have grabbed her hands and shouted, "A kindred spirit!"
"Sis~~~"
Yang Qi's sickly-sweet voice made Bo Zhe and the others break out in goosebumps. Bo Miao, who was coming in with the now-comforted Lü Yan, was so startled by it that she fell to the floor.
Everyone turned to look at her.
Bo Miao gave a stiff smile. "Yang Qi, Sis, what are you two doing?"
"Nothing. Your brother and the others were just talking about their childhood dreams."
Feeling the piercing gazes on him, Bo Zhe gave a few sheepish laughs.
Lü Yan helped Bo Miao up, her eyes fixed on Fang Yao the whole time.
Fang Yao asked, "Do you know me?"
Why does she keep staring at me? Has she figured out that I'm a little rich lady and set her sights on my money?
Fang Yao narrowed her eyes and sized Lü Yan up, then thought, With that scrawny little body, I could crush her with one finger.
Convinced she had dealt with her greatest concern, Fang Yao stopped minding Lü Yan's strange looks.
Bo Miao pulled Lü Yan out of her thoughts. Seeing Lü Yan staring straight at Fang Yao and sensing that Fang Yao was beginning to get annoyed, she tugged on Lü Yan's sleeve.
"Yes. Didn't Bo Hanmo introduce you at the last banquet, Sis? I was with my friends then, but my dad and the others crowded me off to the side." Lü Yan squeezed Bo Zhe out of the way and sat beside Fang Yao.
At Lü Yan's words, Fang Yao remembered. So she was the girl who had been jostled so badly she'd nearly fallen flat on the floor.
Fang Yao discreetly studied Lü Yan. [Tsk, what's with this? Why are all the friends cannon fodder makes also cannon fodder? Not a single supporting character among them. They all die in bizarre ways, too. Not one normal death. Take this Lü Yan here. She shows up while the male and female leads are arguing, and the female lead notices how beautiful she is.]
[In a fit of anger, the female lead drags Lü Yan over and unreasonably insists that she's the other woman. Nothing the male lead says can convince her otherwise. Lü Yan is completely bewildered. By the time she comes to her senses, the female lead has left. The male lead bows and apologizes, so Lü Yan doesn't think much of it. But then...]
The more Fang Yao said, the paler Lü Yan became, until she looked ready to collapse. Only after her friends comforted her in low voices did some color return to her face.
When Fang Yao didn't continue, Lü Yan grew anxious. She wanted to know how she died, and turned her gaze toward her friends.
