Background
Fang Heng was born on Earth after the Star Gate Era. His parents died early, and although he was raised by his aunt and uncle, they could not afford the costly training and qualifications needed to become a Chosen. He spent nearly all his savings on an Internal Ship Ticket from an online smuggler and entered Aethelria illegally. 1
Because he arrived as an unregistered stowaway without Luminous Matter equipment, Fang Heng lacked Magic Adaptability and began with no beginner's guide or Chosen interface. He spent six months alone in Kapuka learning basic alchemy and the operation of Artificer Tools before seeking an adventuring party in Rodell. Dawnstar accepted him when other teams rejected an alchemist without combat potential. 1
Appearance
Fang Heng is a teenage boy with dark-brown pupils whose irises flare outward like flames when he operates equipment. 1
- An eight-pointed star briefly appears on his forehead after exposure to Miya's crystal dagger in the Elven Ruins. 8
- Uses a mithril half-mask and goggles to hide his identity during the Elpaxin Artisan Challenge. 30 45
- Bears a Crown Mark on his hand that can generate a hemispherical defensive shield. 50
Personality
Fang Heng is naturally optimistic, restless, and driven by a lifelong desire to explore. Losing the chance to become a conventional Chosen does not stop him from pursuing adventure as an alchemist attached to combat teams. 1 2
He is earnest and responsible in technical work, qualities Quilod recognizes in him, but he can be naive about danger, money, privacy settings, and how conspicuous his skill level is. 1 3 27 34 He tries to follow Scarpe's advice to avoid attention, yet his competitive instinct repeatedly overrides that caution when challenged. 32 38
Fang Heng is protective of companions and willing to take risks for them. He carries the injured Scarpe through collapsing tunnels, vows to preserve Dawnstar's name after her death, and repeatedly prioritizes allies during the Dark Dragon incident. 8 10 17 46
Abilities & Skills
Alchemy
Fang Heng has a strong practical foundation in alchemy despite initially lacking Magic Adaptability.
- Maintains, repairs, and temporarily compensates for damaged Battle Gear, including Miya's Battle Blade. 2
- Can activate campaign-class Magic Devices as part of an expedition mission. 3
- Uses emergency alchemical methods to recharge a core crystal by soaking it in a magic solution when deprived of his Magic Furnace. 19
- Owns knowledge across Basic Magic Theory, construct design, aether and elemental studies, pharmacy, carpentry, forging, and botany. 15
- Remains short of formal Alchemist certification, which requires Level 3 Alchemy. 15
Combat Artificer Control
Fang Heng is a self-taught Combat Artificer whose techniques were learned from Second World videos, notes, and combat observation rather than formal Chosen training. 32 34
- Uses Short-Range Takeoff and Four-Winged Dance to launch Clockwork Sprites at high speed. 32
- Employs Wide Field of View Mode in high-speed obstacle navigation, using the added spatial information to map his surroundings rather than relying on reflexes alone. 32
- Achieves triple Clockwork Sprite control during the Artisan Challenge, setting a 49-second record. 34
- Anticipates enemy attack intervals and movement patterns, allowing him to evade Qin Zhi's arrow and outmaneuver Hong Ye's Overload Flow. 6 41 42
- His lack of formal training initially leaves him unaware that several techniques he considers basic are advanced professional standards. 34
Sword Plover
Sword Plover is Fang Heng's first Walker: a six-legged, mostly wooden Flexible Construct powered by an Alpha Crystal. 18
- Its combat output can reach 27 at maximum power, more than double Fang Heng's own output. 18
- Has combat strength comparable to a Level 3 Warrior and defeats a Level 4 Dragon-feather Emu at close range. 18 19
- Defeats Eternal Worm's Shield Bearer in nine seconds through exceptional agility and control. 36
- Exploits openings created by Clockwork Sprites to destroy Hong Ye's Annihilator QV700. 42
- Its wooden construction makes it heavy, cumbersome, and prone to losing balance; its low attack power struggles against robust defenses. 18 42
Dragon Knight System
Fang Heng's Dragon Knight System activates through Tata, an artificial Dragon Soul formerly connected to Miya. 15
- Grants access to his Chosen data despite his former status as an unregistered stowaway. 15
- Provides the Dragon Soul talent Twin Stars, though its specific function remains undiscovered. 15
- Assists his dual Clockwork Sprite control during the Artisan Challenge. 35
- Gives him an unusually high ceiling as a Combat Artificer, though he keeps this status hidden from others. 48
Fairy Construct Networking
Through Tata's Dominator-type Dragon Soul and Sylvid's Fairy Construct, Meimei, Fang Heng can function as a Fairy Master. 45 46
- Links to Meimei's Core Crystal and identifies her by the creator-given name stored within it. 45
- Connects Meimei to Hong Ye's Annihilators, lowering her control burden and enabling her to operate two constructs at once. 46
- Relays enemy positions and firing coordinates through the network during the battle against Dragon People. 45 46
- Expands Meimei into a Complete Fairy form that connects to the group's spare constructs. 47
- The process imposes severe cognitive strain even when supporting only Hong Ye's two Annihilators. 46
Equipment
- Kingfisher Alpha Magic Furnace — Purchased with assistance from Etila's group; later modified to use a Type I Crystal and reach 190M output. 27 40
- Sword Plover — His personally assembled Walker construct. 18
- Clockwork Sprites — Used for scouting, combat, distraction, and high-speed competition control. 1 4 42
- Manipulation gloves — Worn-out custom control gloves central to his construct operation; he temporarily uses Luo Yu's Fourth Generation Universal Pointer in the third Challenge round. 30 36
- Mithril half-mask — Used to conceal his identity as “Shaya” during the Artisan Challenge. 30
- Crown Mark — A hand mark that manifests a powerful hemispherical shield against both the Dark Dragon and an assassin. 50
- Meimei — Sylvid's loaned Fairy Construct, temporarily linked to Fang Heng during the Dark Dragon escape. 44 45
Relationships
- Scarpe — Dawnstar leader, employer, mentor, and frequent source of teasing. Fang Heng carries her through the ruins and vows to protect Dawnstar's legacy after her death. 1 8 9 10 17
- Quilod — Dawnstar's disciplined leader; respects Fang Heng's patience and sense of responsibility, and encourages him to choose his own path. 1 4
- Miya — Flor's temporary commander and Fang Heng's early crush. Their relationship becomes tense after her disappearance, but the crystal dagger she gave him ultimately connects him to Tata. 2 12 15
- Tata-Thumb-Morningstar — Fang Heng's artificial Dragon Soul and constant companion. She analyzes his crafting, supports his system use, and reveals herself as a Dominator-type Dragon Soul for Fairy Type Knights. 15 17 46
- Etila — Elven trainee who mistakes Fang Heng for her missing brother, Kid. She later invites him to travel with her group and repeatedly protects or worries about him. 22 24 46 50
- Tian Lan — An enthusiastic teammate who supports Fang Heng in the Artisan Challenge and helps prepare his equipment. 23 39 43
- Luo Yu — Fellow trainee and supporter who loans Fang Heng a control glove for his match against Eternal Worm. 23 36
- Hu Di — Fellow Artisan Challenge contestant who becomes Fang Heng's friend and recognizes the exceptional level of his techniques. 30 34
- Hong Ye — Rival Combat Artificer turned battlefield partner. Fang Heng defeats her Annihilator through strategy, then supports her two Annihilators through Meimei's network. 42 46
- Wu Di — Silverwood Spear member who initially doubts Fang Heng but comes to respect him and attempts to divert the Dark Dragon away from him. 44 47 50
- Sylvid — Owner of Meimei; entrusts her Fairy Construct to Fang Heng during the Dark Dragon crisis. 44 45
Story Role / Major Arcs
Dawnstar and the Elven Ruins
Fang Heng joins Dawnstar as its supporting alchemist and enters the Vanna Forest expedition. In his first battle, he kills two Silverwood Spear Rangers using a Seventh Style Firearm and Clockwork Sprite. 1 4
After Miya's crystal dagger attracts a colossal construct worm, Fang Heng is separated underground with the mortally injured Scarpe. He survives the ruins, is drawn into factional conflict, and loses Scarpe after the mercenaries use Dawnstar as expendable bait. 8 9 10
Dragon Knight Awakening
Fang Heng dies and resurrects in an isolated temple of Angina, where he discovers Hain-Fam's legacy and an Attribute-less Holy Crystal. The crystal awakens Tata and transforms him into a Dragon Knight. 14 15
Leaving the ruins with Tata, he builds Sword Plover in the Egonen forest and begins traveling toward Elpaxin while intending to investigate Dawnstar's fate. 17 18
Elpaxin Artisan Challenge
While traveling with Etila's group, Fang Heng enters the Elpaxin Artisan Challenge under the alias “Shaya.” His advanced Clockwork Sprite techniques expose his unexpected skill, even though he repeatedly attempts to stay unnoticed. 30 32 34
He defeats Eternal Worm's Shield Bearer and later overcomes Hong Ye's superior Annihilator QV700 by forcing her Overload Flow into failure and using a Clockwork Sprite distraction to create a finishing opening. 36 41 42
Dark Dragon Escape
When the Dark Dragon attacks Dragon Horn Hall, Fang Heng joins a temporary escape squad with members of rival guilds. He links with Meimei, supports Hong Ye's Annihilators, and becomes a core asset to the group's survival. 44 45 46 48
During the escape through the marsh, the Dark Dragon and an assassin both target him. The Crown Mark on his hand repels them with a defensive shield before Mazak intervenes against the dragon. 50
Notable Quotes

“As for my goal, it is only victory.” 30
Trivia
- Fang Heng's name is connected to the sword plover, a migratory bird described to him by his aunt and uncle as a child; he later gives the same name to his first Walker. 18
- His ID, Ed, comes from Ed the Creator, the greatest alchemist in history and creator of the Holy Crystal. 14
- He initially believes Four-Winged Dance is merely a basic “Flap Wings” technique because he learned it from elite Second World Combat Artificer material. 34
