This time, though, their lessons were much less frequent. It was not that Will had grown lazy; he was busy with Potion Transfiguration, and Lupin had work of his own.
Most young wizards spent their holidays playing to their hearts' content and enjoying their leisure, even children from Pure-blood families.
But Will—Hogwarts' notorious study fiend, the former Ravenclaw undercover in Slytherin, Slytherin's point-scoring machine, and the first-year student everyone agreed was a prodigy—had not slowed down over the holidays. If anything, he had become more efficient.
Will chose several potions to experiment on, including Confusion Potion, the Draught of Living Death, and Invigoration Draught.
Confusion Potion was for fighting enemies. The Draught of Living Death and Invigoration Draught were to keep himself in good shape; Will often studied so hard that he stayed up all night.
Invigoration Draught was useful to Will after a sleepless night.
As for the Draught of Living Death, with that, Will ought never to suffer from insomnia again.
Will had wanted to try transfiguring Veritaserum too, but he had no desire to drink it himself and could not find a suitable test subject. He had to set it aside for now.
After his experience transfiguring the Bone-Growing Charm, Will had begun to get the hang of the process. Breaking down a potion's structure, drawing the core structure of the spell, developing its resonance into a rough version, then simplifying it—he now had a set procedure.
Transfiguring Confusion Potion did not go particularly smoothly. Will bought all sorts of animals from Knockturn Alley for his experiments, but the early results were disappointing. In the end, he developed the Confusion Charm while testing it on a Jamaican Black-Faced Monkey.
