"Perfect, Will. Many fourth-years would struggle to do it this well." Professor McGonagall nodded. "Welcome to the Transfiguration Club."
"The honor is mine, Professor McGonagall."
"I'll tell you each Friday when the club will meet. This week's gathering is on the top floor of the Tower on the west side of the Castle, starting at six this evening. Remember to eat dinner first; the Dining Room will be closed by the time we finish."
Will was delighted. Every professor who founded a private club was highly accomplished, and its members were outstanding in their fields. The professors also taught their most promising students things the regular curriculum never touched on.
Take Professor Slughorn's Slug Club. When he returned to teach at Hogwarts for the second time, its members included Hermione Granger, the future Minister for Magic; Neville Longbottom, a Herbology master and future Hogwarts professor; and, most famously, Harry Potter, The Chosen One, who would become head of the Ministry of Magic's Department of Magical Law Enforcement and director of the Auror Office.
Professor McGonagall's Transfiguration Club was bound to have impressive members too.
At a quarter past five, Will was eating in the Dining Room while Sylvia filled him in on the latest Castle news: another clash between Gryffindor and Slytherin, a fan club for Harry Potter, and so on.
Will spent so much time wrapped up in his own world that he barely even visited the Common Room. Even among Slytherins, he stood out as a loner.
As several Slytherin girls passed his table, a notification suddenly appeared.
