"Jerry, Hermione, where did you two go after class? I didn't see you."
Harry watched them approach him and Ron with several books in their arms and asked curiously.
"We went to the library to read."
Ron grumbled, "The Sorting Hat must have made a mistake. You two should be in Ravenclaw."
After dinner, Jerry turned down Hermione's invitation to do homework in the library and returned to the Slytherin Common Room.
The moment he entered, hostile looks and whispers greeted him from all sides. Before he could reach his dormitory, two older students approached him with contempt in their eyes.
"Hey, kid. Were you the one who hurt Phelly and the others last night?"
"No," Jerry replied.
Hearing that, the older student who had questioned him turned to his companion. "See? I told you this lowly Mudblood couldn't have done it. He's only a first-year. How could he—ow!"
Before he could finish, Jerry kicked him in the crotch. Nothing went flying, but something had definitely broken. Hopefully, the Hospital Wing could save his chances of having children.
The other student saw his companion writhing on the floor, clutching his crotch and howling. He immediately drew his wand and pointed it at Jerry, but Jerry was faster.
"Expelliarmus!"
"Reducto!"
Jerry's two spells left him unable to fight back. He joined his companion on the floor, howling in pain.
The other older Slytherin students saw how decisive and ruthless Jerry was, and none stepped forward to help. They weren't fools. Losing to a first-year would bring enough shame on their families.
In Slytherin, they had plenty of ways to make trouble for a Muggle-born student. Challenging Jerry to a duel was something only an idiot would do.
"What are you all standing around for?" A cold voice came from behind the crowd. The Slytherins recognized their head of house and parted to let him through, ready to enjoy the show.
Snape reached the front and saw Jerry holding a wand in his right hand while two older students lay on the floor. He roared, "Jerry Green, you—"
As soon as Jerry saw Snape, he put away his wand before the professor could finish. He made himself look small, pitiful, and helpless, then spoke in a voice on the verge of tears. "Professor Snape, you're finally here. They called me a lowly Mudblood and tried to attack me."
"Professor, is Mudblood a bad word? What does it mean? Do you know, Professor Snape?"
Jerry put particular emphasis on "Mudblood." The effect was immediate: Snape's anger visibly rose, and he glared viciously at the two students on the floor.
"What are you fools standing around for? Get these two even more useless fools to the Hospital Wing. Jerry, come to my office."
The other Slytherin students were baffled. Why was the professor yelling at them? But seeing how furious Snape was, they didn't dare argue. They picked up the two injured students and hurried off.
From the way Snape's shout had almost cracked, Jerry knew those two were in for it.
He had used Snape's hatred of the word "Mudblood" to teach the two idiots a harsh lesson while getting under Snape's skin. Heh, heh, heh. He really was wicked!
Bang! Snape slammed his office door shut and fixed Jerry with an icy stare. "Mr. Green, it hasn't even been two days since you enrolled, and five people have already ended up in the Hospital Wing. How impressive."
Jerry met Snape's sarcasm head-on. "Professor, I'm still a child! Do you know how much being called a Mudblood hurts a child who's only eleven, not even twelve?"
"Shut up, Jerry Green, you fool. Drop that pitiful act..."
After snapping at him, Snape continued to stare at Jerry coldly.
Jerry felt as though a venomous snake were watching him from the dark. Uncomfortable as he was, he said nothing more to provoke Snape.
He had already offended Snape badly enough twice. He still had Potions Class to attend, and he feared that if he pushed any further, he might never make it out of the Potions Classroom alive.
"Listen, Mr. Green. In light of the injuries you inflicted on two fellow students, you have detention. On Saturday evening, you'll help Madam Pince clean the library. And remember, no magic."
Snape's words immediately put Jerry on guard. No one knew yet that he planned to steal books from the Restricted Section, but Dumbledore had to know about the Sorting Hat. Why send him to clean the library now? Was this a test?
Seeing the sly smile on Snape's face, Jerry reluctantly agreed. He also decided to cancel his plan to sneak into the Restricted Section that night. If he got caught, that old bat would be the first to demand his expulsion.
Early the next morning, Jerry couldn't understand how the news had spread so fast. Nearly all of Hogwarts knew what had happened the night before: he had sent two older Slytherins to the Hospital Wing. On his way to the Great Hall, several students from other houses greeted him warmly and told him he'd done a great job!
Jerry hadn't realized just how badly those Slytherin creeps got along with the other houses.
"Jerry, you fought some older students? Are you hurt?"
As soon as Jerry entered the Great Hall, Hermione, Harry, and the others came over to meet him.
Hermione was the first to speak, asking whether he was hurt. After Jerry assured her he wasn't, they went to the Gryffindor table and talked about the night before.
"Jerry, you did exactly the right thing. Those arrogant jerks deserved a good thrashing." Jerry's account fired Ron up so much that he wished he could have landed a couple of punches himself.
Neville added, "Be careful, Jerry. My gran says Slytherins are no good."
Hermione bristled. "She's right. The way those Slytherin students look down on everyone, none of them seem to have any manners. And they had the nerve to call Jerry a Mudblood. Slytherins are all scumbags, except Jerry."
"Be careful of Snape, your head of house," Harry told Jerry, touching the scar on his forehead. "When I saw him at the Sorting, my scar burned like it was on fire."
"Don't worry, Harry. I promise you, Professor Snape is a good person. If you're in trouble, he might even help you. You'll just have to put up with his sharp tongue."
Harry was sure Jerry had to be joking. How could Snape possibly help him? Every time Harry saw Snape, he got the feeling the professor wanted to throw him out of school.
Seeing that Harry didn't believe him, Jerry said no more and started eating the Pumpkin Pasty in front of him.
"Mr. Green, may I have a word with you in private?"
Jerry turned and saw an older Slytherin student. "Who are you? What do you want with me?"
"Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Trevor Shackle. You can call me Trevor, Mr. Green. We'd like to get to know you and discuss something with you. Don't worry, Mr. Green. We won't make you late for class."
