Ch. 221The Shinobi World's Second-Best Medical Ninja
Plot and key events
- Uchiha Yi reflects on the extraordinary power of several figures from the Fourth Shinobi World War, especially Obito and Minato. He is most interested in acquiring their abilities and chakra—particularly Obito’s Kamui and Ten-Tails chakra, and the Nine-Tails within Minato.
- Yi enters the Battle Space and chooses Sakura Haruno as his first opponent. He kills her immediately, earning the option to fuse with her medical expertise.
- He recognizes that Sakura’s Medical Ninjutsu is exceptional: she is Tsunade’s true successor and, at this point, second only to Tsunade. Yi fuses with her knowledge, seeing it as a shortcut to helping Mikoto, Kushina, and others become stronger.
- Yi next challenges Yugito, a capable Perfect Jinchūriki, and defeats her instantly. He obtains pure Two-Tails chakra and fuses it.
- The fusion slightly improves the quality of Yi’s chakra. He intends to collect chakra from all nine Tailed Beasts, but refuses to resurrect the Ten-Tails because he fears hidden traps left by Kaguya or Hagoromo.
- Having absorbed the Two-Tails, Yi sets his sights on Minato and the Nine-Tails inside him.
Character developments
- Yi grows more focused on accumulating useful abilities and pure Tailed Beast chakra. He sees himself becoming something like Kaguya at her peak, with the potential to master Kekkei Mōra rather than merely become a Ten-Tails Jinchūriki.
- Sakura is reassessed by Yi: despite his initial contempt for her, he acknowledges her extraordinary learning ability and medical skill.
- Yugito is presented as strong in her own right; her defeat by the Akatsuki’s immortal duo was attributed to being caught off guard, not to weakness.
Themes
- Power and strategic growth: Yi treats battles as opportunities to acquire skills and chakra that will accelerate his development.
- The value of overlooked talent: Sakura’s expertise proves valuable despite Yi’s dismissive attitude toward her.
- Caution around inherited power: Yi avoids the Ten-Tails because power may carry hidden risks or manipulation.
- Ambition and transformation: Yi’s goal extends beyond gaining strength; he hopes to become a being comparable to Kaguya at her height.
Character interactions
- Yi’s interactions with Sakura and Yugito occur through direct Battle Space confrontations, both ending in swift defeats.
- His attitude toward Sakura shifts from mockery to reluctant respect once he recognizes the worth of her medical knowledge.
- He has not yet fought Minato in this chapter, but ends by preparing to challenge him for the Nine-Tails chakra.
