Background / History

Han Feng was Yao Chen’s disciple, whom Yao Chen treated like a son. Han Feng believed his master had unfairly withheld the Flame Mantra and stabbed him in the back. Yao Chen later explained that he had withheld it because the method was untested and required its cultivator to survive the dangers of absorbing multiple Heavenly Flames. Han Feng rejected the explanation and showed no remorse 93 115.

Han Feng established himself in the Black-Corner Region as a peak Dou Huang and sixth-rank alchemist. He possessed the Sea Heart Flame and had successfully cultivated an incomplete version of the Flame Mantra 109 111.

Personality

Han Feng was ambitious but intensely cautious. When an unfamiliar Dou Ancestor entered Maple City, he moved to another residence and had the visitor watched. The prospect of learning about another Heavenly Flame eventually drew him into a meeting, though he delayed it for four days to test the visitors and improve his bargaining position 110 111.

His resentment toward Yao Chen endured even after he learned why the Flame Mantra had been withheld. Faced with the loss of his own soul, however, he surrendered his imprint on the Sea Heart Flame in an attempt to survive 114 115.

Story Role / Major Arcs

• The Maple City deception: Li Changqing and Xiao Yan offered information about a Heavenly Flame in exchange for a supposed pill commission. Han Feng investigated them, then agreed to meet after four days 110 111 112.
• Loss of the Sea Heart Flame: Li revealed that the commission was a pretext, subdued Han Feng, and extracted the flame. The extraction destroyed Han Feng’s body but left his soul intact 113 114.
• Final confrontation: Yao Chen confronted his former disciple and heard him defend the betrayal. When Han Feng remained unrepentant, Yao Chen asked Li to end his life; Li shattered Han Feng’s soul 115.
