Yun Yun initially approaches the Amethyst Winged Lion King with confidence and a lofty manner. When negotiations fail, she threatens to take its Purple Spirit Crystal by force. Her pride sustains her resistance during the ensuing battle, but she recognizes that invoking her sect against Li Changqing could endanger everyone in it and instead asks to make amends 100 101 102.

Her responsibilities as sect master repeatedly outweigh her attachment to tradition. Faced with Li Changqing’s threat to destroy the Cloud Mist Sect, she permits him to enter its sacred Life-and-Death Gate. She regards this as a grave violation of her duty, asks the ancestors for forgiveness, and later conceals her involvement when the gate is damaged 104 107 108.

She is protective of Nalan Yanran, seeking rare materials and pills to strengthen her disciple and offering support after her defeat. That concern also reflects institutional ambition: Yun Yun considers Yanran the future sect master and believes she cannot afford to lose the Three-Year Agreement 100 105 132.

Purple Spirit Crystal Expedition

Yun Yun travels to the Magic Beast Mountain Range to obtain Purple Spirit Crystal for Nalan Yanran. Her offer fails when the Amethyst Winged Lion King demands a seventh-grade Transformation Pill instead. Their exchange escalates into threats, and the beast reveals that it serves an alchemist master 100.

The Lion King proves considerably stronger than her intelligence suggested—closer to a five-star rather than a three-star Dou Huang equivalent. It wears her down and prevents her retreat. Her strongest sword attack creates an opening, but Li Changqing appears in her escape path and reveals his Dou Ancestor cultivation. Unable to fight or flee, she offers compensation and follows his instructions to meet by the lake 101 102.

Forced Entry into the Life-and-Death Gate

At the lake, Yun Yun witnesses Xiao Yan exchange an Earth-tier method for Purple Flame and Purple Spirit Crystal. She is astonished by his resources but does not realize he is Yanran’s rival. Li Changqing then identifies her as sect master and demands entry into the Life-and-Death Gate 103 105.

Threatened with the sect’s destruction, Yun Yun chooses its survival over the secrecy of its inheritance. She leads Li Changqing along a hidden route and opens the gate after asking the ancestors for forgiveness. He finds no Yin-Yang Flame inside and remains there to cultivate 104 105.

When Li Changqing later smashes his way out, Yun Yun fears discovery could cost her position. Finding that Yun Leng and the other elders do not know the cause, she orders them to keep the damage secret and guard the gate until it is repaired 107 108.

Heavenly Flame Expedition

Yun Yun accompanies Gu He, Yan Shi, and Feng Li to Snake-People territory in pursuit of the Green Lotus Core Flame. The presence of five tribal chiefs leads her to suspect that Medusa is absorbing a Heavenly Flame. She interprets Gu Yuena’s refusal to trade as a delaying tactic and initiates an attack 116 117 119.

Gu Yuena blocks her sword effortlessly and kills Yan Shi and Feng Li when they attempt to flee. Yun Yun tries to protect Gu He with another sword attack, but their combined efforts barely stop Gu Yuena’s counter. Gu He offers valuable pills as compensation; Gu Yuena agrees to spare him but refuses to spare Yun Yun 119 120.

Gu He attacks to give Yun Yun an escape opportunity, which she takes without looking back. He subsequently self-destructs in a final attempt to protect her. After returning to the sect, Yun Yun spends roughly a year in seclusion and leaves most administrative work to Yun Leng 120 121 127.

Three-Year Agreement and Hall of Souls Exposure

Yun Yun emerges from seclusion after sensing an aura far beyond Dou Huang. She arrives after Xiao Yan has defeated Nalan Yanran and Li Changqing has captured Protector Wu. Her immediate priority is defending the sect from accusations that it knowingly sheltered a Hall of Souls agent 129 130.

She argues that a Dou Ancestor could have infiltrated any local faction undetected. Protector Wu then exposes Yun Shan’s bargain with the Hall of Souls, prompting her to demand an explanation from her teacher. Yun Shan refuses to fight Li Changqing, avoiding a confrontation that could destroy the sect 130 131.

After the crisis passes, Yun Yun supports the injured Nalan Yanran. When her disciple asks whether breaking off the engagement was a mistake, she answers only with a sigh 132.
