After developing molecular control, he met Charles Xavier and heard his offer to join the school, leaving Russell’s place in the Mutant conflict unresolved.
Russell grew stronger, rejected both Magneto and Professor X’s offers, and used his power against the Triad Gang’s trafficking operation. After rescuing Rogue and taking her in, the story shifted to Matt’s powerless struggle and Jim’s flight into the Four Seasons Hotel.
Russell’s visit to the Xavier Institute unleashed Jean’s Dark Phoenix and led him to announce a contest to recruit powerful followers. As Kingpin built an underworld operation in Russell’s name, Russell transformed Spider-Man into a six-armed mutant.
Russell defeated Captain Marvel, joined forces with the Phoenix, took control of the Chitauri, and encountered Avengers from another universe while probing threats beyond their timeline. As Morlun hunted Spider-Man and Black Cat in New York, Russell arranged a rescue and prepared to train with Ancient One.
Russell returned from Hell to crush the government’s assault, take control of America, and establish a new order that recognized Mutants. His power spread across the world as he punished his critics, while Magneto considered the Mutants’ future secure and Russell turned to improving advanced technology.
Russell intervened in the Avengers’ battle with Thanos, confronted the TVA, and began reshaping the worlds around him. After establishing Valhalla and meeting Apocalypse, he created a Level Five mutant army for the campaign to reach Amenth and rescue Arakko.
Russell led the fight against Infinity Ultron, freed Apocalypse’s family from Amenth Hell, and helped establish Krakoa as a sovereign mutant nation. He then pressured Wakanda and Atlantis to share resources and technology, while a whaling ship prepared to hunt another whale.
Knull awakened beneath the Arctic ice and brought the Living Abyss to Earth, forcing Russell and Thor to confront him. Thor received the World Tree’s Rune Power and the Necrosword, but Knull enlisted Malekith and the Dark Elves to disrupt Thor’s connection to the World Tree.
Russell defeated Knull and Dormammu, then used the aftermath to build alliances among the Nine Realms and Earth’s major powers. He rejected Odin’s offer to rule the Nine Realms as Earth’s nations and powers endorsed a united system, while Ancient One warned Strange to remain close to Russell.
Russell took control of Earth’s crises, detained the Fantastic Four, and brought Thanos and the Black Order into his effort to build rather than destroy. As Galactus threatened Earth, Russell enlisted Stan Lee to set Spider-Man up to defeat him, while Stan sent Loki to the TVA to find a path of his own.
