Deception and concealment

• A clone can act in Naruto’s place while his real body operates elsewhere, as during the Forest of Death exam and the encounter with Itachi’s clone 32 108.
• Clones can conceal their chakra with Mind’s Eye of the Kagura. One avoided patrols while approaching the Hokage’s Office 5.
• Naruto can transform clones into ordinary objects to prepare ambushes 14.

Combat and mobility

• Naruto can deploy dozens of clones at once. They have fought together in taijutsu and combined Wind and Water Release against Sasuke 15 19.
• Clones can use Naruto’s techniques: one used Adamantine Sealing Chains to restrain the Hokage’s guards, while another used Flying Thunder God to reach Zabuza 6 23.
• They are vulnerable to decisive attacks. Kakashi destroyed Naruto’s clones with single kicks, and Orochimaru’s killing intent destroyed one left with Team 7 15 34.

Memory transfer

• Dispelling a clone returns its memories to Naruto. He learned of Orochimaru’s attack on Team 7 this way and later used a clone to report on Han Li’s movements 33 279.

Story Role / Major Arcs

• Scroll of Seals theft: A clone draws Mizuki into Naruto’s plan, then infiltrates the Hokage’s Office disguised as a red-haired Uzumaki woman. It restrains the guards and leaves them alive 5 6.
• Team 7 and the Chunin Exams: Clones support Naruto’s fights, perform routine D-rank work while he travels, and replace him unnoticed during the Forest of Death exam 11 26 32.
• Akatsuki encounters: Naruto uses one clone to draw an attack from Itachi’s apparent body and another to remain with Kakashi’s group after he slips away 108.
• Cultivation world: A clone monitors Han Li for more than two months, dispelling itself daily to report back. In the Forbidden Grounds, Naruto withdraws all his Shadow Clones after Xiang Zhili kills one and notices that it vanishes 227 279.

Trivia

• Naruto’s later five elemental clones are living, independent beings, unlike Shadow Clones that disappear when dispelled 66 188 300.
