The crowd scattered quickly, giving Jack and his men no chance to identify any of them or even get a good look at their faces.
But Jack's attention was fixed on the thing that had suddenly grown from his arm.
"Who? Who did this?!"
His crazed gaze swept the area, but he saw no one suspicious among the throngs of ordinary people.

The director stood on the sixtieth floor. He was a man in his early sixties who still looked fairly vigorous, named Watt Rhode.
He had watched the entire incident through the security cameras but had no intention of intervening.
"Director, won't this damage the Investigation Bureau's reputation?" his secretary asked tentatively.
Watt said casually, "People will remember that he belongs to the Kane Family, not that he's our deputy director."
"He's a Kane Family man first, and one of ours second."
The secretary nodded thoughtfully. "What should we do next?"
Watt narrowed his eyes. "Nothing. The Kane Family has been getting a little too arrogant lately."
The secretary smiled. "Understood. Understood!"
News of the disturbance spread to the Kashan Family almost immediately.
To preserve the family's image, they had completely suppressed news of the earlier surprise attack.
Pero Kashan was dead beyond doubt.
