Obito's Empty Promises

"Rin, in the new world, I'll make you my beautiful bride!"

"I'll make sure the entire Shinobi World knows you're mine!"

"Rin... I miss you so much!"

At first, the staff in the Monitoring Room thought some great menace of the Shinobi World was coming. Everyone stood ready, staring at the screens without daring to blink. But what was this?

He looked like a raving lunatic.

Some of the female Ninja recalled what this supposed great menace had said. Why did he sound so much like their boyfriends? They talked just like that.

They always promised them a happy life, then showed no ambition and spent all day avoiding missions.

When Uchiha Yoru arrived, he looked at everyone's expressions in confusion. What was going on?

Then he walked in, put on a headset, and his expression gradually turned strange too.

"Should we ask Lady Tsunade to come take a look at him? I don't think there's much we can do!"

Zuo Lian'ou spoke with an odd expression, visibly struggling to hold back her laughter.

After all, the great menace they had expected was now laughing and crying by turns, as if he had lost his mind.

The contrast was so stark that it was hard not to laugh.

He said he would marry the person in the grave, live happily with her, and have everyone in Konoha celebrate with him.

He said she would become the Hokage's wife, while he would become the Fifth Hokage.

As if everything would go exactly the way he wanted. If that wasn't a sign something was wrong with his head, what was?

"Stop laughing! Get back to work, and don't disturb him!" Uchiha Yoru shouted.

These people really thought Obito Uchiha was a joke. Little did they know that what Obito spoke of would actually come to pass.

He would even single-handedly ignite the Fourth Shinobi World War and become the Ten-Tails Jinchuriki.

"Sigh." After leaving the Monitoring Room, Uchiha Yoru let out a long breath. He felt a little sorry for Obito too.

Obito wore a mask every day to disguise himself, surrounded by the barely human Zetsu. Madara and Zetsu had arranged his entire life for him.

The strain on him was immense. It was only natural for him to let his feelings out before Rin's grave.

After all, he had no one left to confide in.

As for the people in the Monitoring Room, they had all been marked with the Cursed Tongue Eradication Seal, the Sealing Jutsu Shimura Danzō had used to control Root. If they told anyone other than Uchiha Yoru or Uchiha Itachi what they had seen there, the consequences were obvious.

They knew far too much.

Yoru also worried that if word of Obito's behavior got out, Obito might fly into a rage and bring Akatsuki charging in.

After all, it was the sort of embarrassing past he would want buried forever!

His whole air of menace as the mastermind would vanish.

Still, there was no need to worry. Guy was in the village. He just needed to have one leg ready!!!

"Lord Yoru, someone's here to see you!"

Uchiha Yoru's phone rang.

"Who is it?"

"Two merchants, apparently. They want to buy some of Konoha's new products and resell them. It sounds like a sizable order!"

"On my way! Business is business!"

Uchiha Yoru left the Monitoring Room. If events followed the story, Obito would keep a low profile for now and make no major move against Konoha. There was no need to panic.

"Lord Yoru will be here soon," Uchiha Ruo said.

"What's that?"

The short merchant asked.

"That? It's a phone Lord Yoru invented. People can use it to talk across vast distances, even make video calls!" Uchiha Ruo said, her face full of pride.

After all, it had come from Konoha. Even Sunagakure had only gotten its phones thanks to Konoha.

"Oh, I see!"

Uchiha Yoru arrived soon after.

"So you two are the ones who want to do business with Konoha?" Uchiha Yoru looked at the tall man and the short one.

"I'm Doka, and this is my attendant, Bei Liu! He's a Ninja too. We'd like to buy some of Konoha's novel products and sell them in other countries!" the short man said, rubbing his hands together.

Gato and Hiruko, the villain from the Konoha movie. Did they really think I wouldn't recognize them?

A false smile appeared on Uchiha Yoru's face. "Konoha welcomes merchants from all walks of life!"

"But someone else can handle the details. You didn't need to call me over."

"We wanted to see the man who changed all of Konoha single-handedly! And you're every bit as handsome and distinguished as they say!" Gato praised him.

"Now that you've had your look, I have other matters to attend to. I'll leave them in your care."

"Yes!"

Uchiha Yoru vanished in an instant and watched the three of them walk down the street from above.

Trying to put a Puppet Curse on me? You must still be dreaming! During their conversation, Uchiha Yoru had faintly sensed a power pierce his mind.

It was like a seed poised to break through the soil. If the time came, it would seize control of his mind and turn him into a puppet.

Wasn't that the Ninjutsu that had turned Kakashi into a puppet in the original story?

"Hiruko, how did it go?"

"The curse is in place!"

"Good!"

"After tonight, I'll be a god!" Gato said excitedly.

After what had happened that day, Gato had met this Konoha rogue Ninja by chance. Hiruko had told him he could make him stronger if given enough time and money.

After the first experiment, Gato had felt the difference for himself. He had even gained something called a Kekkei Genkai.

His body was as hard as steel. Hiruko had told him that if he gathered five different Kekkei Genkai, he could become a god in this world and gain eternal life.

How could he not be ecstatic after feeling such a dramatic change in his body?

With Kakuzu's protection, his funds had kept growing. If the Hokage world had a Forbes rich list, Gato would surely have ranked near the top.

He had immediately told Hiruko he could have anything he wanted, as long as he made Gato stronger.

Now came the final experiment: taking the Uchiha Clan's Kekkei Genkai so Gato could truly become a god.

That was why they had disguised themselves as merchants and entered Konoha. Under the cover of buying supplies, they would secretly abduct Uchiha Clan Ninja.

Their first target was naturally Gato's enemy, Uchiha Yoru. If not for him, Gato's plan in the Land of Waves would never have failed.

Hiruko looked at the delighted Gato with contempt. You think you can become a god?

Hiruko had plans of his own. With a fool who had more money than sense funding him, he could bring those plans forward by a long time.

To placate Gato, he had even made special modifications to the Chimera Technique!

Did he really think I'd serve someone like him?

Jiraiya and Tsunade would surely attend Uchiha Itachi's wedding too!

He would make the entire Shinobi World witness the moment he became a god.
