Ch. 581Today's Ark
Chapter summary
Plot points and events
- After more than a month studying alchemy, Pan Long successfully refines three kinds of pills. Wen Chao says he can qualify as an alchemist for now, though he lacks the broad experience and medical knowledge of a professional.
- Pan Long refines the Yin-Yang Life-and-Death Pill several times, improving from one pill per batch to four. When he uses the Snake Demon’s inner core, he produces nine pills. One contains concentrated Buddhist power and is gentler than the others, but can suppress inner demons.
- Wen Chao advises Pan Long to give the special pill to Wu Jixing alongside a Marrow-Washing Pill and a Dragon-Tiger Harmony Pill. The combination should help her control her bloodlust, advance her cultivation, and improve her constitution, though she will need a month of rest afterward.
- Pan Long delivers the pills and instructions to Wu Jixing. She is surprised by their value but accepts them, trusting his judgment.
- Pan Long offers his father a Four Symbols Truth-Returning Pill, but Pan Lei refuses, confident he can reach Return to the Natural State through his own cultivation and the Iron Palm method he developed.
- Pan Long completes the Date Selection stage of his marriage rites with Wu Cuigu; the couple is already legally married, and only the October bridal procession remains.
- He enters the Classic of Mountains and Seas to cultivate in the world called Next Year’s Ark. There, he finds that the Refinement Method has transformed society: Psychic Infection is now treatable and noncontagious for practitioners, so many poor people deliberately seek infection to gain Psionic Power. Formerly shunned infected people have returned to society, and the reorganized Zion now calls itself the Tower of Babel.
Character developments and interactions
- Pan Long shows growing skill and confidence as an alchemist, but remains aware of his limitations. He is generous toward Wu Jixing and his family, while still respecting his father’s independent ability.
- Wen Chao acts as Pan Long’s teacher, explaining both his alchemical strengths and shortcomings. He also teases Pan Long about Wu Jixing, provoking embarrassed protests, before giving him practical treatment advice.
- Wu Jixing reacts with gratitude and quiet trust when Pan Long offers the pills. Her serene acceptance leaves him wondering what she means.
- Pan Lei demonstrates pride, ambition, and intellectual independence by refusing the pill and asserting that he can reach the next realm on his own.
- Pan Long and Wu Cuigu move closer to completing their marriage rites, though the wedding ceremony is still ahead.
