"What was that? Theater?"
Fiona Russell lay on the down comforter, propping her cheeks in her hands while her bent legs swayed in the air. Her face was full of worry.
"That Highness gave us a lead, and Mr. Paper Doll is about to set out on the path to godhood. Of the three of us, I'm the only one doing nothing."
She hadn't counted that Highness. A god wasn't a person.
"Oh, right. I forgot to ask Mr. Paper Doll for something at the gathering. But I don't think I have anything to ask for. I'll leave it for now and ask when I need something."
But what if I never need anything, and Mr. Paper Doll becomes a god? Will he still bother with me then? The thought only troubled Fiona Russell more.
Knock, knock, knock!
At the sound of someone knocking on her bedroom door, Fiona Russell promptly smoothed the comforter and sat up in an elegant pose. "Come in."
"Miss." Lia entered, glanced at the comforter, and said, "The Goddess of the Spring's Hillman Grand Temple was completed today. Their Archbishop said the Goddess of the Spring would bestow Divine Grace, so the duke asked me to let you know. You could go to the temple, pray, and see if you're lucky enough to receive it."
Divine Grace? Fiona Russell's heart stirred, but she immediately recalled Mr. Paper Doll's warning. After a moment's thought, she shook her head. "Tell my father I have something to do. I won't be going."
"Miss." Lia looked baffled. "This is a chance to receive Divine Grace. Are you sure you won't go?"
Fiona Russell shook her head firmly. "I'm not going!"
