Frum Crayle's refusal made Ieta Cavendish frown slightly.
He wasn't angry. He simply felt that, as a companion, he ought to offer a warning.
"As a Practitioner on the path to godhood, you shouldn't get too close to gods. Otherwise, they may erode your very being."
He paused, then added, "His Highness is the exception, of course. He is our chief god."
He won't erode us.
Frum Crayle nodded to show he understood. Any Practitioner on the path to godhood was a tempting prize to the gods. But the nature of his profession required him to approach them and steal their Divine Power to cast spells. He also needed the Goddess of Ice and Snow's help to gain control of an Authority.
Ieta Cavendish thought for a moment, then turned to Fiona Russell.
"Miss Fiona, as a member of the pantheon accepted by our chief god, you should raise your Class Level to Legendary as soon as possible. Then you can seek clues to claiming and mastering an Authority, so you'll be ready for the great Disaster that comes with the changing of epochs."
Even gods might fall in such a Disaster. No Legendary Professional or Demigod could claim to be safe.
Fiona Russell nodded. Disasters always accompanied the end of an old epoch and the arrival of a new one. By the calendar, this epoch was nowhere near its end, but every sign suggested the next would arrive soon.
"Thank you for the warning. I'll do my best."
Reaching the Legendary level was incredibly difficult. Many princes with vast stores of rare magic resources had failed to take that final step. Still, she would try.
