A breeze stirred the little tree, barely half a person's height. Its crown, bearing only a few green leaves, swayed in the wind. A light rain had left a few droplets on them.

A fair-skinned hand rested on its crown. Fingertips brushed the leaves several times, but she still couldn't bring herself to strip them off and leave the tree bald.

I'll wait until it has more leaves, Fiona Russell thought, drawing back her hand.

But why hasn't anyone come today? Did something hold them up? Or did they change the meeting place and forget to tell me?

Fiona Russell grew a little uneasy.
