The man who had first said the G-10 asteroid looked like Ghroth cried out in terror when he heard it. "Ghroth has brought the celestial song! It's awakening the Great Old Ones! Blue Star... Blue Star is about to be destroyed!"
"Impossible. It can't be Ghroth from the Cthulhu Mythos," an expert immediately objected. "That's just fiction—science fiction, at that. The things it describes can't be real."
The so-called Cthulhu Mythos was a fictional mythology based on the world of American writer Howard Phillips Lovecraft's stories, developed by August William Derleth and created collectively by many other authors.
It had first appeared as science fiction in Weird Tales. Readers had even written in to complain, asking what kind of science fiction it was supposed to be.
How could the events in a work of mythological fiction with such a well-documented history possibly be real?
