Personality

Zhao Wuji is boisterous and eager to recruit exceptional students. On hearing about Lin Xiao’s level-twenty Innate Soul Power, he rushes to the entrance, puts an arm around his shoulders, and personally authorizes him to skip to the final test. He also recognizes Tang San and Xiao Wu as outstanding applicants, though he considers Lin Xiao’s potential greater 6.

His confidence becomes irritation when Lin Xiao’s tactics threaten to embarrass him. Nevertheless, he accepts the argument that weaker fighters should exploit every advantage against a stronger enemy. After conceding the test, he acknowledges Lin Xiao’s command ability rather than punishing him for the humiliating attacks 8 9 10.

His concern for students extends beyond combat instruction. He tries to intervene when mysterious golden light envelops Lin Xiao, orders the others to stay back after it injures him, and subsequently demands secrecy to protect Lin Xiao from dangerous outsiders. Li Yusong brings Zhao Wuji, Shao Xin, and Lu Qibin to inspect Lin Xiao after discovering his extraordinary awakening certificate. Zhao Wuji immediately approves Lin Xiao for the final examination and leads the applicants to the test site 6.

The examination requires the group to endure against him until an incense stick burns out; if one applicant remains standing, the entire group passes. Zhao Wuji initially believes the difference in cultivation is too large for their planning to overcome 7 9.

Entrance-Test Concession

Lin Xiao’s team combines support, restraint, frontal attacks, and flanking maneuvers. Zhao Wuji initially praises their coordination, then identifies Lin Xiao as the main threat after his orders repeatedly target vulnerable areas and disrupt Zhao Wuji’s balance 8.

After repelling the attackers with Immovable Bright King Body, Zhao Wuji accepts Lin Xiao’s defense of ruthless tactics—but realizes that the discussion has stalled the fight. His renewed pursuit ends when Lin Xiao uses the Immortal Slaying Sword as a distraction and places the Immortal Execution Sword against his throat. Protecting and Advising Lin Xiao

Zhao Wuji offers to lead a Soul Ring hunt for Lin Xiao personally. Instead, he witnesses Lin Xiao receive a Heaven-Bestowed First Soul Ring. His attempt to reach Lin Xiao through the descending golden light throws him backward and makes him cough blood 10 11.

Once Lin Xiao explains his unusual rings, Zhao Wuji warns that outsiders could target him and threatens severe punishment for anyone who reveals the incident. He later marvels at Lin Xiao’s advancement to level twenty-five and the prospect of another heaven-bestowed ring 11 12.

He also explains Spirit Hall’s monthly allowance and bounty commissions when Lin Xiao asks how to earn money, while advising him against taking unnecessary risks.
