| First Appearance | Appears unnamed at Eastsea Academy 2; identified as Wu Changkong 3 |
Background / History
Wu Changkong has a connection to Shrek Academy: his talent is described as being among its best, and his lessons incorporate both Shrek material and his own insights. His instruction exceeds the depth normally available at academies in Eastsea City 9 13.
Before Li Qingxun’s enrollment, Wu had already protected Tang Wulin and his companions from Guang Biao. Although both men were Soul Emperors, Guang Biao was described as substantially inferior to Wu in strength 13.
Appearance
Wu Changkong is handsome and refined, with a cool expression. During the confrontation with the injured students’ parents, he appears younger than thirty despite his Soul Emperor cultivation 14.
- Clothing: Wears a white trench coat during combat training and a blue-and-white trench coat while teaching 9 13.
- Build: Stands considerably taller than the middle-aged father who confronts him in Long Hengxu’s office 14.
- Bearing: His imposing presence and killing intent frighten the hostile parents into retreating 14.
Personality
Wu is aloof, direct, and accustomed to giving instructions rather than negotiating them. His urgency in recruiting Li Qingxun is unusual enough that Long Hengxu immediately recognizes how highly he values the boy’s potential. Despite his reserve, Wu openly praises Li after their sparring match and acknowledges the limitations of his own performance 3 9.
He investigates disputes before assigning blame. After the campus fight, he compares multiple witness accounts rather than accepting Ye Yingluo’s accusations. He later punishes Tang Wulin and Gu Yue for their conduct while requiring Gu Yue to apologize for an attack aimed at Li’s vitals 8 11.
His protectiveness can become ruthless when a student faces an immediate threat. He first explains Li’s case to the parents, but severs a father’s arm when the man attempts to cripple Li. Afterward, he restrains his remaining killing intent and tells Li to report any further harassment 14 15.
Abilities & Skills
Soul Emperor Cultivation
Wu possesses six Soul Rings, including a black ring, and is recognized within the Tang Sect’s Eastsea City branch as a Peak Soul Emperor 3 21.
- Releases enough pressure to immobilize hostile parents, including Soul Masters displaying three and four rings 14.
- Suppresses his output for training: he begins his duel with Li at two-ring strength, raises it to three rings, and later uses four-ring cultivation against three students together 9 11.
- These training restrictions do not erase the underlying advantage of his six-ring cultivation; Wu explicitly acknowledges that advantage when evaluating his clash with Li 9.
Frost Sword and Sword Energy
Wu wields the Frost Sword and can release sword energy rapidly enough to intercept a sudden lethal attack 9 11.
- Third-ring technique: Enlarges the Frost Sword to meet Li’s Ice and Snow Sword. Li’s blade shatters, but Wu’s greatsword suffers a large notch 9.
- Interception: Destroys the snowy sword flying toward Tang Wulin’s brow before it strikes him 11.
- Precision: Severs an attacking father’s arm and freezes the wound before blood can spray 14.
Cold Manipulation
Wu uses cold power independently of his direct sword attacks 8.
- Shatters the ice swords pinning the injured students, allowing their Martial Soul Fusion Skill to end 8.
- Recognizes that Li’s lingering ice power makes the wounds exceptionally difficult to heal 8.
- Relies on Li to remove that residual cold from the injured students rather than treating it as ordinary frost damage 8.
Teaching and Combat Assessment
Wu teaches Martial Soul theory at a brisk pace, with clear structure and precise explanations. His curriculum includes understanding, identifying, and wielding Martial Souls 3 13.
- Recognizes the potential of Li’s Heavenly Snow Woman and the extreme Mental Attribute of his second Martial Soul 3.
- Uses direct sparring to test strength that witness accounts alone cannot fully establish 9.
- Adjusts training to individual ability, exempting Li from running because of the strength gap between him and the others 13.
- Oversees weekly Spirit Ascension Platform visits and explains regrouping requirements and emergency withdrawal procedures 21 22.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Frost Sword — His principal combat weapon in the documented duels and the confrontation with the parents 9 14.
- Wooden staff — Used at the beginning of his restricted-strength duel with Li; destroyed despite its Soul Power reinforcement 9.
- Teaching pointer and textbook — Used during Class Zero’s morning lessons 3 13.
- Tang Sect token — Presented to the enforcement captain to establish his membership; subsequently verified with a scanner 21.
- Phone — Used to receive Li’s request for help and show confirmation that the Tang Sect has withdrawn its investigation and surveillance 21 22.
Relationships
- Li Qingxun — Student and exceptional recruit. Wu secures his Class Zero admission, arranges his dormitory, tests his combat abilities, and protects him from both physical retaliation and a misleading enforcement report. Li responds to this protection with unusual emotion and obedience 3 4 9 13 14 15 21.
- Tang Wulin — Student whom Wu protects from a potentially fatal sword strike. He also holds Wulin accountable for provoking Li, assigning an extra hour of daily training for a week 11.
- Gu Yue — Student whose concealed strength impresses Wu. He permits her challenge against Li but subsequently condemns her lethal attack, demands an apology, and assigns additional training 10 11.
- Xie Xie — Class Zero student who participates in Wu’s lessons, physical conditioning, group combat training, and Spirit Ascension Platform trials 3 11 13 22.
- Zhang Yangzi and Wang Jinxi — Initially his Class Zero students. After they join the attack on Li, Wu rejects their parents’ demands and announces their expulsion alongside Wei Xiaofeng 3 14.
- Long Hengxu — Academy colleague who facilitates Li’s admission and handles the administrative aftermath of the campus fight 3 8 14.
- Ye Yingluo — Fellow teacher who demands an explanation for the injuries to her former students. Wu establishes what happened through eyewitness testimony 8.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Recruiting Li Qingxun
- Questions why Li’s powerful Heavenly Snow Woman Martial Soul has only one ring 3.
- Responds to the revelation of Li’s second Martial Soul by immediately requesting his admission to Class Zero 3.
- Introduces Li to the class, seats him beside Xie Xie, and arranges a two-person dormitory room that Li initially occupies alone 3 4.
Campus Fight and Combat Training
- Arrives after Li defeats Wei Xiaofeng, Wang Jinxi, and Zhang Yangzi; breaks the pinning swords and establishes who initiated the fight 8.
- Challenges Li during evening training. Although his enlarged Frost Sword breaks Li’s attack, Wu calls the exchange effectively a draw in light of his own cultivation advantage 9.
- Steps aside when Gu Yue challenges Li, then intervenes when Li launches a sword at Tang Wulin’s head 10 11.
- Resolves the immediate dispute through apologies and additional training, then orders Tang Wulin, Gu Yue, and Xie Xie to fight him together 11.
Defending Li Against Retaliation
- Reassures Li before meeting the injured students’ parents and warns him against provoking them unnecessarily 13.
- Disables the father who attempts to seize Li, expels the three boys, and drives the parents out of the office 14.
- Answers Li’s call when Tang Sect enforcers arrive over the same incident. His verified membership and account of events prompt the captain to apologize and promise an investigation into the false report 21.
- Confirms that the Tang Sect has ended its investigation and surveillance of Li 22.
Spirit Ascension Platform Trial
- Accompanies Class Zero to its weekly trial and briefs the students on emergency buttons and their separate starting positions 21 22.
- Watches Li’s unusual route with initial puzzlement but allows him to continue, trusting the strength he has demonstrated 23.
