Background

The Sky-Rending Sword was forged by an ancient Sword Venerable for battle against demonic cultivators. Before its full awakening, it remained a damaged ancient sword whose origin power was dormant; Sword Elder stated that it required Spirit Realm Sword Soul origin to recover its true strength 38.

It resided in Ling Yun’s dantian during his early cultivation, where its gray energy intertwined with his fire Sword Intent and helped him refine the Flowing Fire Seven Forms 6. At Sword Burial Mountain, it resonated with Sword Maniac’s ancient sword and absorbed its earth-attribute Sword Soul, allowing Ling Yun’s fire, wind, and earth Sword Intents to combine 8.

The Primordial Sword’s origin initiated the Sky-Rending Sword’s artifact spirit consciousness. Its transfer left the Primordial Sword depleted, but gave the Sky-Rending Sword a closer bond with Ling Yun and a clue leading toward Myriad Sword Cave 30.

At Myriad Sword Cave, the sword healed completely and began summoning and purifying Sword Souls. Its development thereafter became inseparable from Ling Yun’s accumulation of Sword Intent, the Heaven and Earth Sword Box, and his realization that the Way of the Sword centered on protection rather than revenge 48 145 204.

Appearance

The sword’s appearance changes as it awakens. Its early coarse cloth sheath falls away to reveal a dark green blade covered in ancient patterns, with a grooved hilt designed to hold Sword Intent Crystals 22.

• Ancient patterns later manifest as red, silver-white, lightning-purple, ice-white, cyan-gold, Chaos, and Time markings 30 97 272.
• A miniature “Qióng” character appears at the hilt after its thunder- and ice-pattern awakening 97.
