Almost the moment Lu Yi thought of taking off, a powerful lift surged through the Flying Broomstick beneath him, carrying him off the ground and into the air.
Lu Yi hurriedly gripped the broomstick handle with both hands. Only after he steadied himself did he turn his attention to the scenery below.
For the first time in over a year, Lu Yi felt what it was like to take off on a broomstick again.
To avoid drawing too much attention, he summoned his Wand and cast the Disillusionment Charm, blending into the sky.
A light rain began to fall, but Lu Yi had never felt brighter.
After a quick test of its performance, Lu Yi had a fair idea of what the Flying Broomstick he had made could do.
The panel had rated it shoddy, and it had its reasons.
In speed, handling, and comfort, the broomstick he had made could not even match the old relics used in Hogwarts Flying Class.
Its only virtue might have been its sturdiness.
How sturdy?
At least it had not fallen apart.
After flying a circuit, Lu Yi confirmed his earlier suspicion: the broomstick did not consume Soul Power. He was overjoyed.
But using it for long flights was another matter. What it consumed was the durability of his backside.
Just as Lu Yi prepared to fly back to his dormitory and add a Cushioning Charm, an aged voice suddenly sounded in his mind.
"Child, what a fine invention. Might you let this old man take a look?"
Lu Yi braked to a halt in midair and looked around, but saw no one.
The voice sounded familiar, though. It could hardly belong to anyone but Mu En.
As he pondered this, the voice sounded again. "Come to the pavilion on the island. I
