|---|---|---|
| Soulbound Wand / Martial Soul | 1 | Fuses with Lu Yi’s body during his arrival on Douluo Continent. It can emerge from his palm and retract into it; his panel identifies it as Wand (Soulbound). |
| First Soul Ring — hundred-year Furious Dragon Lizard | 3 4 | Grants Rampage, which strengthens Lu Yi’s next spell by 20–50%, depending on his anger. |
| Golden Tree reconstruction | 164 | A mysterious being dismantles the original Wand and reconstructs it using Golden Tree wood. The new form gains strong light affinity and power over darkness and evil, but prevents Lu Yi from absorbing darkness-attribute Soul Rings. |
| Third Soul Ring — Ten-Thousand-Year Twin Cyclops | 178 | Lu Yi absorbs the ring’s full energy with Electrolux’s assistance. Some energy is diverted to strengthen his first two Soul Rings. |
Background
Lu Yi originally bought the Wand from Ollivander while living in the Wizarding World. Its Ebony shaft and Phoenix Feather core remained outwardly unchanged when it became his Martial Soul on Douluo Continent 97 203.
Its first use after the crossing was a Diffindo cast that killed a Wind Baboon threatening Huo Yuhao. The spell exhausted Lu Yi’s strength, and the Wand sank back into his palm as he collapsed. After recovering, he confirmed that it had become part of his body 1.
Following its reconstruction beneath the Golden Tree, Lu Yi still felt the same familiar connection when casting. He suspected that its core had survived and only the wood had changed, but did not establish this as certain 203.
Appearance
| Form | Description |
|---|---|
| Original Wand | Approximately a foot long, resembling a dead branch or small twig. Its wood is later identified as dark Ebony 1 97 203. |
| Reconstructed Wand | A smooth shaft shining with golden light, resembling a rod of gold 164. |
| Handmade Wands | Lu Yi’s early shafts are a little over ten inches long and approximately finger-thick. Individual Wands vary in wood, core, and appearance; Ning Tian’s is pale cream-colored 204. |
Abilities & Skills
Spellcasting Medium
The Wand channels Lu Yi’s magic and allows him to apply Soul Ring amplification to spells 1 4 17.
- Attack: Releases spell effects such as Diffindo’s scarlet energy blade and Incendio’s fire 1 23.
- Defense and control: Used during Lu Yi’s fight with Wang Dong for Protego and the casting of Expelliarmus 17.
- Concealment: Wand movements accompany Disillusionment, including a large circle used to conceal Wang Yan and the Reserve Team 111.
- Ritual work: Pointed at Lu Yi’s heart during the twice-daily Animagus incantation 264.
Golden Tree Affinity
The reconstructed Wand has a powerful affinity for light and an intense aversion to darkness and evil 164.
- Possesses power over darkness and evil, although Lu Yi cannot initially determine its exact functions 164.
- Prevents him from absorbing darkness-attribute Soul Rings 164.
- Does not substantially interfere with his existing spellcasting 164.
Enchanting and Magical Craftwork
Lu Yi uses the Wand as a tool for placing persistent magical effects on objects 73.
- Flying Broomstick construction: Its tip acts as a carving tool, inscribing spells for levitation, balance, stability, turning, acceleration, braking, and cushioning 73.
- Object transformation: Helps transform a leaf into paper before Lu Yi makes it into a Howler 250.
- Teaching demonstrations: Used to transform a matchstick into a needle during Transfiguration class 257.
Memory Extraction
The Wand can draw a recalled memory from a person’s temple as a faint strand of light for use in a Pensieve 266 293.
- Lu Yi extracts his own fragmented memories to investigate Nana’s history 266.
- He extracts Nana’s memory of an Evil Soul Master visiting Virtue Hall, then uses the Wand to prepare it in the basin for viewing 293.
Soul Spirit Contracts and Necromancy
Electrolux adapts his magic to Wand-based casting rather than requiring Lu Yi to rely exclusively on a necromantic staff 111 205.
- Soul Spirit Contract: The adapted version is easier to cast and more controllable. Lu Yi uses the Wand to trace a Hexagram Array beneath a Soul Master and Soul Beast 198 205.
- Necromancy: Electrolux initially describes Wand casting as a temporary measure, far less effective than using a necromantic staff 111.
- Suitable wood: Wenlan wood is identified as a potential means of strengthening Wand-cast Necromancy 111.
Compatibility & Limitations
- The Wand chooses its user. A successful match creates a perceptible connection; tests can produce warmth, light, or other reactions 204 227 293.
- An incompatible Wand is unreliable. Casting remains possible, but success is less likely and backfires may endanger the caster 97.
- Imitation does not ensure compatibility. Huo Yuhao copies Lu Yi’s Wand but initially produces a spark instead of Lumos. He eventually creates light, though the copied Wand disappears when Imitation expires 97.
- Mental aptitude matters. Ordinary Beast Martial Soul users are generally disadvantaged in compatibility tests. Cui Yajie, whose Nine-Tailed Fox Martial Soul favors mental strength, is an exception 293.
- Crafted Wands are not Lu Yi’s Martial Soul. During the Infernal Delicate Apricot fusion, he cannot use his Wand Martial Soul because he is working with his Second Martial Soul; an ordinary Wand would not withstand the surrounding heat 307.
Wand-Making
Materials and Research
Lu Yi studies Wand-making through the Magic Library, consulting Wand-Making Craft, Ollivander Family Notes, Wand Woods and Cores: Their Properties, and James Steward—A Muggle’s Method of Wand-Making 203.
| Component | Findings on Douluo Continent |
|---|---|
| Wood | Without Bowtruckles to identify magically suitable trees, Lu Yi turns to Plant-type Soul Beast wood and known magical trees such as Wenlan and the Golden Tree 203 204. |
| Initial supply | Buys four logs from several-hundred-year-old tree Soul Beasts for a total of two thousand Gold Soul Coins 204. |
| Flame-Tailed Sparrow feathers | Provide effective cores for his first handmade Wands and later prove especially compatible with Xiao Xiao 204 227. |
| Other Soul Beast materials | Tests hair, spinal cords, nerves, and unusual tissues obtained from dozens of Soul Beasts 227. |
| Auspicious Beast fur | Collects the Three-Eyed Golden Lion’s longest tail tuft, judging it to be core material of the highest grade 247. |
Experimental Results
- Roughly 20% of tested Soul Beast core materials produce usable Wands; fewer than 5% have impressive magical power 227.
- Exceptional materials consistently come from Soul Beasts with powerful bloodlines and elemental affinity 227.
- Soul Beast age affects magical power, though Lu Yi cannot precisely quantify the relationship 227.
- The longest hair on a beast’s body may be preferable to tail hair 227.
- By the lesson for his founding students, Lu Yi has ten woods and seven or eight usable core materials available for combinations 227.
- Wand-making itself requires no Magic Enchantment. With appropriate instructions, even an ordinary carpenter can complete the process 303.
Relationships
- Lu Yi — Original owner and principal Wand-maker; remains connected to his personal Wand after its reconstruction 203.
- Electrolux — Guides material selection, adapts Necromancy and Soul Spirit Contracts to Wands, and directs Lu Yi to Wand-making books 111 203 205.
- Huo Yuhao — Temporarily imitates Lu Yi’s Wand during an unsuccessful attempt to pursue magic as a practical new discipline 97.
- Ning Tian — Receives a Wand better suited to healing, defense, and enhancement than offense; becomes Lu Yi’s first successfully taught Wizard on Douluo Continent 204 205.
- Zhou Sichen and Cao Jinxuan — Find compatible Wands through repeated testing and begin formal lessons 227.
- Xiao Xiao — Matches strongly with a Flame-Tailed Sparrow feather-core Wand 227.
- Nana — Finds a compatible Wenlan Wood Wand on her second attempt 293.
- Xiao Ding — Produces a working Wand independently after receiving Lu Yi’s instructions, making him suitable for the Ministry’s confidential manufacturing work 303.
Role in the Ministry of Magic
Access to Magic
- Compatible Wands let Soul Masters learn Lu Yi’s arts without possessing his Martial Soul 225.
- Limited production and unsuccessful compatibility tests restrict the number of students he can teach 256.
- Lu Yi intends batch production to support the training of more Spirit Transmitters using Electrolux’s Wand-adapted Soul Spirit Contract 205.
Secrecy and Discipline
- Lu Yi treats core preparation and shaft-to-core joining as closely guarded methods, entrusted only to people he trusts 206.
- He does not plan to sell Wands at the time he tests the rescued recruits; he records their materials and relevant properties instead 293.
- Wand confiscation is intended as a reversible alternative to physically taking back a member’s learned arts 205.
- Using Transfiguration on another person carries the Ministry’s maximum punishment: Wand confiscation, memory erasure, and expulsion 257.
