Bian Zhenxin dared swear to the omnipotent Flame God that he had never seen such a beautiful woman in his life.
That was also why he had willingly taken the risk to bring her away. He knew he would regret it for the rest of his life if he missed this chance.
Yes, he had found love.
From the first moment he saw Phoenix, he had fallen in love with her and wanted to make her his own.
Only the stars above could raise such delicate young ladies. It was impossible on Old Earth. Everyone there was grimy and gray-faced, with unattractive skin, and they did not know how to dress or groom themselves.
Even the occasional few with decent features and fair, tender skin lacked that quality in every gesture and movement.
Yes, that quality!
He now understood why Phoenix had stirred his heart so deeply. Her aura was simply too unique.
Without saying a word, she stood there quietly, yet people could not help but focus all their attention on her alone. Still as an orchid, bright as the moon.
That radiance was dazzling; that beauty was a sight one rarely encountered in a lifetime.
No, it was a sight he had seen only once in his life.
He had accompanied his father to banquets and met the Family Members of high-ranking shrine officials. Compared to the woman before him, they were chickens standing beside a phoenix.
"Let me go!"
"Let me go! My father will kill you when he comes back!"
"You stupid fools—"
--
Deep in the dense forest, Phoenix was cursing at the top of her lungs.
Unfortunately, her fine upbringing made it impossible for her to curse too crudely. Compared to Tang Fei and Little Fatty's outstanding performance earlier, she was utterly outclassed.
For the first time, she realized that cursing was a skill. Family Members, Elders, all sorts of animal names, and body parts could be flexibly combined to produce such an intense chemical reaction. It sent blood pressure soaring, drove people out of control, and easily made them do all kinds of insane, shameless things.
She had to admit that her verbal skills still had enormous room for improvement!
"Let her go!" Bian Zhenxin said.
This woman was already in his pocket, his private possession. He could not help feeling a little tenderness toward her.
Besides, what could a pampered young lady descended from New Star possibly do out here in the deep mountains and forests?
Run away? That was impossible.
Even if she did not fall into his hands, she would fall into the jaws of mutated beasts.
A miserable life was better than a good death. Everyone on Old Earth knew that saying.
And that was indeed how they lived.
The Gray Robe figures released Phoenix's arms, restoring her freedom.
Phoenix stretched her body and put on a display of her "dainty fists and slender legs." She glared hatefully at the man in black robes. "Do you know what you're doing? You kidnapped me like this. When my father finds out, he'll definitely bring people to kill you."
Bian Zhenxin watched with great interest. Completely unafraid of Phoenix's threats, he smiled wildly. "Kill us? Do you know who I am? Do you know where I am?"
"They can only come to the Flame Shrine, but our Flame Shrine has many people and great strength. Even if your family has some influence on New Star, so what? The sky is high and the emperor is far away. Do you understand what it means to be beyond reach?"
"How many people can you bring? Fifty? A hundred? But do you know how many people the Flame Shrine has? Do you know how many shrine members there are in the Hate Mountain District alone?"
Survival was too difficult, life too desperate. People longed for someone to lead them out of their misery and show them the way forward.
And so, the omnipotent gods were born.
When the Flame Shrine had first been founded, it had been a holy place for people of faith.
Later, as its influence grew greater and greater, and it was about to replace the former administrative institutions, many people began harboring crooked thoughts.
For survival, for power, for women, even for self-preservation, everyone tried every possible way to join the shrine.
Thus, countless hoodlums, thugs, bullies, thieves, and even some Predators changed their outfits and joined the Flame Shrine.
This place had become a nest for criminals and a paradise for terrorists.
"Besides, even if you can mobilize a regular army, so what? We'll hide in the deep mountains or forbidden zones. Where will you find us? And even if you do, what then? If you can't kill us, you might end up in the jaws of giant beasts yourselves."
Bian Zhenxin looked at Phoenix and said coldly, "So if I were you, I'd obediently submit. As long as you can please your Master, your future days may not be too hard. Otherwise, you'll be begging for life and unable to die."
"When I get tired of you, I'll reward you to my brothers. When they get tired of you, we'll sell you to those Predators. Do you know what you'll suffer then? By that time, you'll surely miss my mercy."
When a skinny little monkey beside them heard the leader say he would "reward Phoenix to my brothers," his eyes glittered. He leaned close to the man in black robes and suggested, "Divine Envoy, I just calculated with my fingers, and today is an auspicious day. Why not take this woman right here, with the sky as your blanket and the earth as your bed, and consummate the happy occasion?"
Bian Zhenxin looked around, clearly tempted.
Food and sex were human nature. He had no resistance whatsoever to Phoenix's beautiful, seductive body. He had long been thirsty and restless, his blood boiling throughout his body. If he could have her sooner, he would naturally welcome it with open arms.
Moreover, this place was remote and quiet, with his brothers guarding nearby. Completing a Great Harmony of Life amidst nature was also exactly the sort of thing he had always enjoyed.
His only concern was Phoenix's mood and attitude. He did not want to look like some sex-starved thug or crude lowlife. He wanted to win as much of her affection as possible and claim her heart.
Strange, why do I care what a woman thinks? Bian Zhenxin was startled.
It was not as if he had never abducted women before. After taking them, he used them; after using them, he discarded them. Only those of especially high quality were kept at the shrine for long-term enjoyment.
What was wrong with him today?
No, no. Women would only disrupt his state of mind and keep him from being as impartial and cold-hearted as before.
Bian Zhenxin decided he could not let a woman affect him, so he prepared to accept his subordinate's suggestion and consummate the happy occasion here in this barren wilderness.
After they returned, who knew whether that Old Man at home would have other ideas?
He looked at Phoenix with lecherous eyes and said, "I think they make a lot of sense. What do you think?"
"Don't come any closer!" Phoenix clutched her chest. In all those melodramatic romance dramas she had watched, this was how the heroine acted when being violated.
She backed away again and again, her face pale as she said in a terrified voice, "Don't come any closer..."
"Divine Envoy, she's calling for you," the skinny monkey said with a mischievous grin.
In their eyes, when a woman too weak to truss a chicken shouted such words at a man, was that not a signal of invitation?
Bian Zhenxin perked up. He waved at his subordinates, signaling them to withdraw from the encirclement and not follow him over to spoil the fun.
"Divine Envoy, enjoy yourself."
"Divine Envoy, we'll help keep count. Hope you can break your record again this time!"
"Leave security to us. Not even a fly will get through."
--
The Gray Robe figures shouted and laughed, more excited than if they were taking the field themselves.
Bian Zhenxin, wrapped in black robes, walked toward Phoenix with an amused smile.
One step, then another.
If Phoenix retreated quickly, he pursued quickly.
If Phoenix retreated slowly, he pursued slowly.
He liked this sort of game. Noble ladies from New Star really knew how to play, unlike those Old Earth women he had taken, who lay there like dead pigs and never learned anything new from beginning to end.
Bang!
Phoenix's back slammed heavily into the trunk of a huge tree. The tree was more than a meter in diameter, its thick foliage blotting out the sky and sun.
"This is the place!" Bian Zhenxin stretched out both arms, trapping Phoenix's body.
His arms and the tree formed a perfect closed ring. Phoenix could not move, and their faces were only inches apart.
"This is the place!" Phoenix narrowed her eyes and smiled.
Bian Zhenxin was stunned by how beautiful her smile was.
But he also felt that something was not quite right.
Why was she smiling? Had this been what she had been waiting for all along?
She had said, "This is the place."
Why had she said that?
Danger!
The thought had barely surfaced when Phoenix suddenly raised her knee.
Bang!
A heavy impact rang out.
It sounded as though something had shattered.
Then Bian Zhenxin's body bent like a bow, his face twisting grotesquely from the pain.
At the same time, a black shadow dropped from above.
Squelch!
The Dogleg Knife plunged cleanly through Bian Zhenxin's skull and into his brain.
