Background / History
Family and Entry into Shrek
Zhang Lexuan belonged to a minor noble family in the Heaven Dou Empire. After villains murdered her entire household, Mu En avenged them and taught her cultivation. In gratitude, she swore to protect Shrek Academy for the rest of her life 47.
Her Silver Moon martial soul led Liao Mengkai to identify her as a descendant of the Sun Moon Imperial Family, whose direct descendants possess sun or moon martial souls. Zhang Lexuan acknowledged that such ancestry might exist but considered it distant and identified her family as Heaven Dou nobility. A commandery-princess title was later offered as an incentive to join Sun Moon, but no appointment is confirmed 40 47 50.
Inner Court Career
Known in her earlier years as the Moon Fairy, Zhang Lexuan eventually became the Inner Court’s chief disciple. She led a previous generation of the Shrek Seven Devils, participated in the Continental Soul Fighting Tournament twice, and was described as Shrek’s youngest Soul Douluo in three thousand years 47 77.
Mu En regarded her as a future level 98 Super Douluo and a prospective Sea God Pavilion Master. He instructed her to bypass Yan Shaozhe in the succession if she reached level 98 before him, strip him of authority, and send him into seclusion 18.
Twelve Disciples Blood Tragedy
Zhang Lexuan survived the Twelve Disciples Blood Tragedy, in which eight companions died following Xuan Zi’s negligence. Although she obtained her hundred-thousand-year eighth soul ring, she later said she would rather have gone without it. Absorbing the ring left her bedridden for half a year 18 50.
Afterward, Yan Shaozhe required her to kneel and plead for Xuan Zi to remain at Shrek. Mu En later admitted that he had tacitly approved this treatment because the academy needed Xuan Zi’s strength, and apologized to her 18.
The tragedy caused recurring nightmares and enduring survivor’s guilt. Zhang Lexuan continued escorting juniors on soul hunts because successfully protecting them made her feel that the ring—and her survival—had some worth. She explicitly stated that she could no longer feel at ease leaving their safety to Xuan Zi 18.
Appearance
Zhang Lexuan has a fair complexion, a gentle face, and a graceful bearing 18 39 77.
- Eyes and brows: Dark, clear eyes and soft, willow-leaf brows 50.
- Clothing: Wears simple, elegant casual clothes at Landscape Manor and a moon-white brocade robe while watching sparring 73 77.
- Demeanor: Her later appearance is marked by a calmness associated with extensive experience 77.
Personality
Zhang Lexuan is protective of younger disciples and willing to challenge authority on their behalf. She defended Ling Luochen’s right to choose her future after graduation and questioned Yan Shaozhe’s open favoritism toward Ma Xiaotao. Her objections extended to the academy’s treatment of dangerous missions as repayment for training 17 18.
Her loyalty to Shrek was rooted especially deeply in gratitude toward Mu En. Even after recognizing the academy’s failures, she initially refused to leave and angrily rejected attacks on his character. She later admitted that Shrek no longer represented fairness or consistent neutrality, while maintaining that she personally could not condemn her benefactor 47 50.
Her sense of responsibility often becomes self-sacrificial. Faced with Yu Tianjun’s plans for revenge, she offered her life and soul bones while asking him to spare innocents. Her eventual decision to join his organization centered on protecting others and eradicating Evil Soul Masters. Her personal ambition is to retire and establish an academy where she can teach children 50 55.
Abilities & Skills
Silver Moon Martial Soul
Her Silver Moon manifests as a moon disc capable of cutting through opponents and releasing powerful moonlight attacks 39.
- Cuts down multiple ten-thousand-year soul beasts during the beast tide 39.
- Her attacks leave enemies sliced apart or transformed into moonlit sculptures 39.
- While still a Soul Douluo, she displays Titled Douluo-level fighting strength against two dark gold terrorclaw bears 40.
- Liao Mengkai compares her close-combat ability to that of some ordinary level 9 soul engineers, while noting that her destructive power is comparatively lacking 40.
Silver Moon Avatar
Her seventh soul skill merges her body completely with the Silver Moon 39.
- Releases beams compared to grade-seven Soul Guidance Rays 39.
- Clears the surrounding battlefield and gravely wounds a Golden Lion King, allowing the other disciples to withdraw with it 39.
Hundred-Thousand-Year Eighth Soul Ring
Her eighth ring grants two demonstrated skills 40.
| Skill | Demonstrated Effect |
|---|---|
| Blood Moon Eclipse | Turns the Silver Moon into a blood moon and fires a powerful beam of bloodlight. Blasts the female dark gold terrorclaw bear aside while Zhang Lexuan urges Wu Ming to escape 40. |
| Moonlight | Makes her body silvery white and expands the moon beyond a hundred meters in diameter, enveloping both bears. Kills the female bear as its body melts and turns much of the male bear’s body jade-white 40. |
- Limit: These skills do not prevent the male bear’s Dark Gold Dreadclaw from splitting her martial soul into four pieces. Already exhausted by successive battles, Zhang Lexuan loses consciousness 40.
Martial Soul Fusion Compatibility
Zhang Lexuan’s Silver Moon has over ninety percent compatibility with Yu Tianjun’s martial soul 50.
- Her silver moon soul power merges with his ultimate darkness soul power and completes a circulation cycle 42.
- Both experience an unusual sense of affinity associated with martial soul compatibility 40 47 50.
- A fusion response is confirmed, but no completed or named fusion skill is demonstrated in the supplied chapters. Yu Tianjun questions whether their cultivation gap would prevent its use 42 50.
Spiritual Control and Soul Spirit Contracts
Zhang Lexuan possesses sufficient spiritual power to preside over Soul Spirit contracts. Yu Tianjun introduces her to the process through Ling Luochen’s bond with a royal Ice Jade Scorpion 73 74.
- Agrees to observe the bonding and learn how to officiate future contracts 74.
- Her involvement is intended to offer a safer alternative to conventional soul hunting and help address the trauma behind her stalled cultivation 73.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Questioning Shrek’s Leadership
- Helping Ling Luochen: Arranges an Adventurers’ Association guide for Ling Luochen’s Far North soul hunt after learning that she can no longer endure suppressing Ma Xiaotao’s evil fire 6.
- Confronting Yan Shaozhe: Challenges his attempt to have Ma Xiaotao punish Ling Luochen for becoming close to the Heavenly Dragon Sect. Their argument exposes his belief that disciples who will leave Shrek deserve less consideration 17 18.
- Seeking Mu En’s counsel: Receives reassurance, an apology for her treatment after the earlier tragedy, and instructions concerning the Pavilion succession 18.
- Yan Shaozhe’s punishment: His account of the attack on Yu Tianjun recalls her own traumatic experience. Mu En explicitly presents his punishment of Yan Shaozhe as an effort to uphold justice and reassure her 29.
Star Dou Beast Tide and Disappearance
- Dividing the team: A simulated metal treasure used by Yu Tianjun’s group draws soul beasts toward Shrek’s expedition. Zhang Lexuan clears a retreat route, sends Han Ruoruo away with the students, and searches alone for Wu Ming 39 40.
- Fighting the bears: Protects Wu Ming against two dark gold terrorclaw bears. She kills the female but suffers a shattered martial soul and collapses before the male 40.
- Rescue and removal: Liao Mengkai and Yu Tianjun intervene. Their group takes both women away rather than returning them to Shrek 40.
- Presumed death: A later hundred-thousand-year bear’s traces confuse Shrek’s investigation. Mu En concludes that Zhang Lexuan is dead, while she is alive outside the academy’s reach 42.
- Institutional aftermath: Mu En orders Titled Douluos to protect future Inner Court soul-hunting teams and redirects his succession hopes toward Bei Bei 42 43.
Treatment in Mingdu
- Specialist treatment: Ordinary treatment stabilizes her body but cannot repair her martial soul. Yu Tianjun uses Ultimate Metal to absorb the lingering dark gold terrorclaw bear soul power and begin restoring the Silver Moon’s fragments 45 46.
- Awakening: Initially rejects attempts to recruit her and insists that she will never betray Shrek 47.
- Learning Yu Tianjun’s identity: Faints after discovering that the supposedly dead Dark Qilin survived Yan Shaozhe’s attack and intends to take revenge on Shrek 47.
- Reconsidering her beliefs: Recognizes her fusion compatibility with Yu Tianjun and acknowledges that she has no right to demand he abandon his hatred. Her concern for Wu Ming becomes central to further negotiations 50.
Joining the Alliance
- Recruitment: With Ling Luochen’s encouragement, agrees to help Yu Tianjun pursue his plans and eradicate Evil Soul Masters, provided she can eventually retire to open an academy 55.
- Break with Shrek: Yu Tianjun’s account of Blue Tyrant Academy contradicts the history she learned at Shrek and further undermines her faith in the institution 55.
- Reuniting with Wu Ming: Joins Han Ruoruo and Ling Luochen in confirming that they will not return to Shrek. Gently encourages Wu Ming to consider cultivating in Mingdu 55.
- Life at Landscape Manor: Welcomes Yu Tianjun home, observes Soul Spirit bonding, and later watches Ji Juechen fight Su Tong. Their talent leaves her admitting that she feels considerable pressure about her own advantages 73 74 77.
Relationships
- Mu En — Benefactor, cultivation mentor, and the central source of her loyalty to Shrek. He avenged her family and selected her as a future Pavilion successor, but also admitted responsibility for the injustice she suffered after the Twelve Disciples Blood Tragedy 18 47.
- Bei Bei — She helped raise him and promised to protect him. Mu En arranged her as his “child bride,” but Bei Bei did not know of the arrangement and fell in love with Tang Ya. Zhang Lexuan repeatedly refused Mu En’s proposals to cancel it; no later resolution is confirmed 18.
- Yu Tianjun — Rescuer, treating physician, prospective martial soul fusion partner, and eventual Alliance leader. Their relationship begins with hostility over Shrek and develops into cooperation, without a confirmed romantic union 40 46 47 50 55.
- Ling Luochen — Junior disciple and trusted friend whose unfair treatment she opposes. Ling Luochen later helps persuade her to begin a new life with the Alliance 6 17 18 55.
- Han Ruoruo — Fellow senior Inner Court disciple entrusted with evacuating their juniors. They reunite in Mingdu and later observe Alliance sparring together 39 55 77.
- Wu Ming — Junior disciple whom she risks her life to rescue. Learning that Wu Ming survived restores her will to engage with Yu Tianjun’s proposals 40 50.
- Yan Shaozhe — Former superior whose favoritism and treatment of disciples provoke her doubts about Shrek 17 18.
- Xuan Zi — His negligence lies at the heart of her survivor’s guilt and distrust of Shrek’s soul-hunting protection 18 73.
