Ch. 1The Truth After Death, Qiu'er's Help
- Key events: Wang Dong’er’s soul watches after her death as Tang Wutong awakens in her body, unaware of her life with Huo Yuhao. Huo Yuhao continues to love and pursue Tang Wutong, but she repeatedly rejects him—including after he is brutally wounded and later when he tries to explain Ju Zi’s pregnancy. Unable to bear seeing his suffering, Dong’er begins to fade away. Wang Qiu’er appears and reveals that Tang San used Tang Wutong’s divine consciousness to manipulate both women. She offers Dong’er a chance to be reborn in exchange for helping free Qiu’er from that consciousness and keeping her away from Huo Yuhao. Dong’er agrees, and Qiu’er turns the wheel of fate. Dong’er awakens as an eleven-year-old in Clear Sky Castle, before she has met Huo Yuhao or entered Shrek Academy.
- Character development: Dong’er’s grief and powerlessness turn into resolve. Reborn with memories of her former life, she decides to live as herself rather than as Tang Wutong’s vessel, and vows to protect her body and seek Huo Yuhao again. Qiu’er shows compassion despite their past rivalry, prioritizing Dong’er’s survival and her own freedom. Huo Yuhao’s unwavering devotion is shown through his attempts to save and reconcile with the woman he believes is Dong’er; Tang Wutong, by contrast, remains distant and distrustful.
- Character interactions: Dong’er silently witnesses Huo Yuhao being rejected and hurt, unable to comfort him. Qiu’er reaches her at the point of vanishing, shares the truth of their shared exploitation, and entrusts her with a promise. Their alliance replaces their earlier competition over Huo Yuhao.
- Themes: The chapter explores identity and bodily autonomy, the harm caused by treating people as vessels or tools, grief and rebirth, and the difference between love and possession. It also reframes Dong’er and Qiu’er’s rivalry as a bond forged through their shared manipulation.
