Kakashi held two cans of coffee and tossed one to Sasuke.
Sasuke caught it with his right hand and glanced back at him. "Aren't you going back to Konoha to take charge?"
Kakashi gave him a warm smile. "I'll leave at dawn. Before I go, I wanted to talk to you."
With updates having stopped for so long, everyone has probably forgotten why Kakashi was on Blue Moon Island.
So let's have a quick recap.
It all went back to... Sasuke's Eighth Battle. Toward the end of the fight, Izuna broke free of Impure World Reincarnation, fled the battlefield, and found Madara, who had possessed Naruto through the black cursed seal—in other words, Madara.
To fulfill Izuna's wish, Madara destroyed Konoha. Meanwhile, the people of Konoha reviled Tsunade over the fabricated charge of having "shielded" Naruto in the past. She simply stepped down from the Hokage position and went to Shikkotsu Forest to train, hoping to become the "Celestial Ninja" foretold by the Great Toad and one of the fighters who would face the God of Ōtsutsuki in the future.
Thus, Kakashi Hatake was entrusted with leadership in that crisis. He assumed the Hokage position, then led the Konoha forces to Sunagakure for temporary refuge.
The Fire Daimyo rebuilt Konoha at the foot of Kikyo Mountain. While Konoha was relocating, Inari Ōkami possessed Kakashi, turning him into the deity's vessel for confronting Orochimaru!
After a battle of wits and strength, Orochimaru used the Shinigami's power to seal Inari Ōkami's hands!
