Background / History

Before the Uchiha coup, Itachi served as a double agent: the Konoha Military Police Force directed him to infiltrate the village, while Konoha’s leadership used him as an informant within the clan. He attempted to mediate their conflict but failed. After Danzō stole Shisui’s right eye, Shisui entrusted his left eye to Itachi and took his own life 60.

Itachi accepted Danzō’s order to destroy the Uchiha on the condition that Sasuke survive. With Obito’s assistance, he killed his parents and clanspeople, accepted the public identity of a traitor, and planned to die fighting Sasuke. He intended that confrontation to awaken Sasuke’s Mangekyō Sharingan and ultimately give his brother eternal sight through his own eyes 60 257. His devotion to Sasuke initially takes a controlling form.
