Mei Terumi's investigation began on the very first morning.
She did not ask Jin Uchiha to accompany her. Instead, she entered Konoha's ninja archives with two ANBU who had come with her from Kirigakure. Konoha assigned Domoto, a Jonin from the Yamanaka Clan, as her liaison. On the surface, he was there to assist her; in reality, he was there to keep watch.
When Jin Uchiha received the news at the Konoha Military Police Force, he was studying Root's recent movements with Shisui Uchiha.
"The archives were her first stop." Shisui Uchiha set down the intelligence scroll in his hand. "This woman is clever. She looks at the records before she talks to anyone."
Jin Uchiha leaned back in his chair, tapping the armrest lightly. "What's in the archives?"
"All official correspondence between Konoha and Kirigakure around the time of Yagura's incident. Mission assignments, intelligence exchanges, diplomatic documents." Shisui paused. "And records of Uchiha Clan members leaving the village during that period."
Jin Uchiha's fingers stopped.
"She's checking whether any Uchiha left Konoha during that time."
"Yes." Shisui lowered his voice. "And she specifically requested one person's departure records."
"Whose?"
"Yours."
The air in the room went still for a moment.
Jin Uchiha's expression did not change. He had expected Mei Terumi to investigate him. After all, he was the Uchiha Clan's de facto leader in Konoha. If an Uchiha had intended to target Yagura, there was no way he would not have known.
"What did she find?" Jin Uchiha asked.
"You're lucky." The corners of Shisui's mouth lifted slightly. "During the period when Yagura was being controlled, you happened to be outside the village on three long-term missions. One took you to the border of the Land of Wind for nearly two months. The records have the Hokage's signature
