Ch. 321Dave: Oh, forget it
Plot points and events
- Dave arrives at Konoha’s gates with Kakuzu and Orochimaru in bizarre, revealing costumes: Dave in egg-shaped powered armor, Kakuzu in a pink bodysuit, and Orochimaru in red armor with pink stockings and a whip.
- Dave proposes letting Nagato’s group run the Fatherless Alliance and giving the Land of Light branch to the nine tailed beasts. Kakuzu and Orochimaru reject his plans, especially after seeing the tailed beasts dressed in matching outfits.
- Kakuzu and Orochimaru abandon the mission, and Dave eventually gives up his organizational schemes after further discussion. They throw away their costumes; Dave remains baffled that nobody appreciates his fashion sense.
- At Kaguya’s house, Atora and Indra hire a retired chef to teach their grandmother to cook. Kaguya’s attempts at tomato-and-egg stir-fry and a fried egg go disastrously wrong, culminating in a kitchen fire.
- The chef tries again by supervising her sushi preparation. Kaguya mistakes sodium for salt and puts it in the cooking pot, triggering an explosion. She saves the chef from the blast, but he later dies in hospital after a heart attack.
Character developments and interactions
- Dave is enthusiastic about his schemes and outfits but oblivious to how alarming they seem. Kakuzu and Orochimaru firmly refuse to cooperate and flee; Kakuzu is particularly horrified at the thought of Konan dressing similarly.
- Kaguya remains cool and confident despite her lack of cooking skill. The chef tries to encourage her while discreetly avoiding her food, but his increasingly desperate instructions cannot prevent disaster.
- Atora and Indra take action to improve Kaguya’s cooking, though they leave the chef alone with her during the first attempt.
Significant themes
- The chapter relies on absurd comedy, escalating from Dave’s ridiculous fashion and plans to Kaguya’s increasingly hazardous cooking.
- It plays with the gap between confidence and competence: Dave sees his ideas as stylish, and Kaguya approaches cooking earnestly, but both situations end in chaos.
- The chef’s polite encouragement contrasts with his growing fear, while the explosive mishaps turn an ordinary cooking lesson into farce.
