The sun sank in the west, staining the entire horizon blood-red as though thirsting for blood.
Liu Feng stood on the platform, overlooking the residential complex.
He had to admit that Long Tai had shown some judgment in choosing this place as his base. The perimeter walls on three sides of the complex were reinforced with concrete and stood more than twice a man's height, with spikes installed around them. Never mind mindless zombies—even an ordinary person would probably struggle to climb over those walls into the complex.
"Feng, the guys have blocked up the breach in the wall just like you ordered. Even a tank probably couldn't smash through the back entrance now."
Hearing the familiar voice behind him, Liu Feng slowly turned around.
Han Bing noticed the worry in Liu Feng's eyes and lowered his voice. "Feng, are you feeling sick? You look a little off."
"I'm fine." Liu Feng did not dodge the question. Looking straight at Han Bing, he continued quietly, "Tell the guys to stay sharp tonight. Something else might happen."
"Feng, you mean...?"
Han Bing glanced toward Long Tai's remaining followers, who were squatting unarmed in the corner. Liu Feng shook his head.
"No, I'm not sure either. But let's prepare in advance. This is our first night here, after all. It never hurts to be careful."
Hearing that, Han Bing said nothing more. He nodded and withdrew.
The first half of the night passed as peacefully as before.
Just as Liu Feng grew drowsy and was about to drift off, a clatter of footsteps suddenly came from outside his room. His mind snapped awake.
"Who's there!"
"Feng, it's me."
Liu Feng recognized Han Bing's voice.
"What happened?"
"Feng, I don't know how it happened, but there's a fire in the complex."
"A fire?"
Suspicion stirred in Liu Feng's mind, but he could not work out the cause right away. He quickly dressed and opened the door to find Han Bing looking anxious.
By the time Han Bing led Liu Feng to the scene, everyone had worked together to put out the fire. Only patches of black soot remained on the snow-white walls.
Liu Feng's brow furrowed as he scanned everyone present.
Before nightfall, Liu Feng had already ordered everyone to stay alert. Besides, the entire complex was tightly guarded; no one could possibly have slipped inside to set a fire. That left only one possibility.
Perhaps there really was a traitor among them.
Who could it be?
For a moment, Liu Feng racked his brain but found no answer.
"Rooar..."
"Graaah..."
Just then, the cries of zombies suddenly rose outside the perimeter walls. They came one after another, ceaselessly. At first, only a handful cried out, but as the sound carried, zombies all around the complex began answering.
Everyone present shuddered at the terrifying sounds.
For zombies, which had no sense of sight, nighttime was their home turf!
Humans were a species that relied heavily on light. Once night fell, they lost most of their fighting capability.
It had been nothing more than a strange little fire, yet it had stirred up every zombie in the night.
Listening to more and more zombies converge on the complex, Liu Feng's brow remained tightly knitted.
"Han Bing, wake everyone up. Tell them to bring their equipment and get ready for a Zombie Tide siege."
Han Bing nodded gravely, but just as he turned to leave, he looked back again.
"Feng, what about the dozen or so prisoners we took today?"
Liu Feng thought briefly, then answered in a low voice, "Give them guns and ammunition. Have them join us on the front line!"
"O-okay."
Liu Feng stood on the platform. The Iron-toothed Insects he had released were already ready for battle.
Through the Iron-toothed Insects' eyes, Liu Feng saw just how enormous this zombie horde was.
An entire street was packed with zombies. Weathered by wind and rain, some had ruptured eyeballs hanging outside their empty sockets. Others dragged grotesquely twisted legs, struggling toward the complex. A few relatively intact zombies charged at the front as though they had gone mad.
At the complex's main entrance, quite a few zombies had already been impaled on the wooden barricades and iron spikes. Even hanging there, they kept flailing their limbs and opening their gaping, bloodied mouths.
The same scene played out on all four sides of the Residential Camp.
"Fucking hell, not a soul in sight during the day, and now this many come crawling out at night!"
As Liu Feng grumbled under his breath, Han Bing's voice suddenly came from behind him.
"Feng, everyone's ready."
Hearing that, Liu Feng finally let out a stale breath.
"Guys, don't fucking waste ammunition! Aim before you shoot!"
At his command, gunfire crackled across the platform like firecrackers, muzzle flashes flaring everywhere.
In the first exchange alone, a large swath of the leading zombies fell. The mangled flesh was too gruesome to look at.
Liu Feng had also sent 100,000 Iron-toothed Insects and 10,000 Parasitic Insects into battle.
Listening to the system notifications ringing in his ears, Liu Feng could barely contain his delight.
[Ding! Killed one zombie. Experience +10] [Ding! Killed one zombie. Experience +10] [Ding! Killed one zombie. Experience +10] ...
He had to admit that the Iron-toothed Insect legion was pulling its weight. Its losses were considerable, but looking at the bigger picture, the gains were still worth the cost.
Boom!
A violent explosion instantly drew Liu Feng's attention.
At some point, Han Bing had hoisted a Rocket Launcher onto his shoulder. That single Rocket blasted the zombies nearby into minced flesh.
Though the Rocket Launcher was powerful, the densely packed, unfeeling zombies quickly filled the gap the blast had torn open.
As he watched more and more zombies arrive, Liu Feng's expression slowly darkened.
Liu Feng snatched the Rocket Launcher from Han Bing's hands and shouted, "Go get me a container of gasoline!"
"Gasoline?"
"Stop asking questions and get it ready!"
The moment he finished speaking, Han Bing vanished into the darkness. About two minutes later, a full barrel of gasoline stood before Liu Feng.
Looking at the gasoline barrel in front of him, Liu Feng casually waved his hand, and several thousand Iron-toothed Insects flew over. At his command, they carried the barrel into the middle of the zombie horde.
While everyone watched in confusion, Liu Feng aimed the Rocket Launcher at the gasoline barrel among the zombies.
"Heh heh, let's kick things off with a bang!"
